Dangerous Beko cookers

Just reading about the tragic deaths of some 18 people in the UK, some of whom were campers, from faulty Beko gas cookers.  Devastating for the families of the deceased who mistakenly turned on the grill of their faulty appliance which released a build up of carbon monoxide.

Obviously some 12 years ago now but apparently only 58% of UK owners were contacted to warn them of the fault.

I hope everyone checks their appliances as a result of this and perhaps install the correct detection alarms around their caravans and campers.

    Carbon monoxide detectors have been mandatory in new RV's  for a while. When they were not we put one in ourselves. Personally I can't understand anyone who doesn't, they are so cheap and easy to install. However I agree a timely reminder both for when we can get away and at home.

    It is dreadfully sad 😢

    What I do not understand is that they are still allowed to sell dangerous appliances once faults have been uncovered, not to mention how long it takes for existing ones to be made safe. Think plastic backed fridges, tumbler driers that catch light.

    While it's always wise to take care with all our appliances, whether home or away, these particular cookers seem to have been installed in residential accommodation rather than touring caravans.

    That’s correct Tim, mainly in domestic but the Guardian reported a couple who died in a caravan

    I think you'll find it’s a residential caravan on a park home site in Camborne, Cornwall. They tend to use standard domestic appliances.
