If you dont mind me asking...who cleans these units on club sitres, on a couple of commercial sites i have been on the turnover in use has been pretty hectic, e.g. some only staying a couple of nights, so every 2 days units need to be cleaned, bedding/towels changed replaced, assume you dont have to take your own bedding?.

On the commercial sites I have been on they have teams of contract cleaners, clean the units, facilities block etc, unlike club sites, where this is normally the wardens responsibility

Would it not be easier just to have various sizes of static caravans? innocent

I would expect it to be free at up to £60/70 p/night👍🏻, I think an extra charge on top would be a deal breaker tbh🤷🏻‍♂️

As far as I know Experience Freedom have their own team to sort out the Glamping units, although the Wardens might do the camping Pods as they are quite simple. The Glampers will be like cottages, visitors out early, cleaning team in, bedding, towels etc..... all Covid Secure cleaned. Any holiday lets have to follow strict guidance at the moment.

Thanks for posting this Viatorum I've had a look at it using the link you provided.

Personally I don't have a problem with other forms of camping going onto campsites. I wouldn't want to see it go the way it has on many sites overseas where there are so many mobile homes  the touring pitches have been squeezed to just one corner out of the way.

We stayed at the Brighton site last November which has various units on them, Airstreams x 2 and cabins etc. Apart from the Airstream caravans the other units were well out of the way that if we hadn't gone looking for them I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have noticed them. They certainly were not a blot of the campsite, the Airstream caravans were on pitches just along the row from where we chose. They only stood out because they are different to all the other 'white' units on site.

The one thing I did notice when looking at the link for the other website is that there is not one site in Scotland that has any of these 'alterative' camping units. I would have thought Scotland was a prime place to have some units on.

That is the main income source and so members no doubt funded the set up

Greenpark CL at Banchory has both Pods and Cabins/"Cottages" for hire. If anyone is interested here's the website.

You could have always asked the question at the recent AGM? Given this discussion it could be a popular one at the next AGM!!!

Why wouldn't there be? Check out the AGM thread.

Even if "present circumstances" in so far as covid still prevail in 12 months time, it'll probably be a repeat of this year's arrangements.👍🏻

The wardens cleaned them as I recall.

You can order towels but bedding is provided.

Odd they never got round to putting WiFi in. When we were there in May 2016 there was an Air Angel van moving round the site setting up temporary masts to check on the best place for there siting. I even managed to lock onto one with my pad. Couldn't get a connection though.☹️

Being used to continental campsites as well I personally love a good onsite restaurant/take away/pizzeria..The Friday night fish and chip van on British sites is always very popular ditto the visits from the mobile pizzerias.

I think Easy T was quoting my post. Cayton Village is such a large site that there would have been plenty of room for a restaurant. Perhaps the difference with this site compared to the other Club sites with such facilities is that there are places to eat within short walking distance of the site and perhaps there would be local objections? We have used the restaurant at Seacroft a few times and it seems to be very popular. Personally not so keen on visiting food sellers as we have had very mixed results depending on which site. If we see more and more static accommodation on sites that may mean an extension of restaurants on site?

Could wardens be trained to cook and serve fish and chips at sites which don't have the benefit of a visiting van?

The main problem I have with sites with restaurants, as far as the Club is concerned, is that the site fees do seem  to be higher as a result, so if it is not a facility you would use then I would go elsewhere.

Knaresborough is an example of this.  We stayed there twice way back, but since it was done up the price is beyond what we feel is good value.

The restaurant is pretty pricey too!

There's a pub at the entrance to the static site, just up the road from the Cayton entrance, two pubs in the village, I think there's a chip shop too? Plenty of chips to go round plus a seasonal beach cafe if the cliffs don't fall further into the sea. The nearest walk to the beach ends in quite a drop where the sea is eroding the coast.

We stayed on a site in Devon this year and two of the site managers set up a pizza oven during the week with very good home made pizzas, they offered them to the locals too, orders taken on their mobiles. Edit ..Not that I would expect that elsewhere. wink
