    Does it matter?

Unfortunately, it is only possible to quote one post, unlike in the old days when the chain of posts would show.

There is a very distinct difference between the two clubs although we personally joined both clubs to expand our choice of sites.

You won't find a group of motorcyclists, a backpacker or two or teenage adventurers on a CAMC site. On a CAMC site a few tents will probably relegated to a bit of spare space and that's just a token nod towards anyone with other ideas about staying on a camp site....

Incidentally i've never bothered with the C&CC forum, I see some on here have. But they do have a lot of "interest " groups and cater more for individuals so I think they possibly have their ear to the ground on the more social side of things for those that enjoy that side of life. Their temporary holiday sites are a great invention.

That said I'm happy to use both clubs. (And now the emojis have failed, I did try to add a smile!!)

You won't see controllable showers on C&CC sites and so there are differences indeed.

It is the booking arrangements, restrictions and rules that, in my view, demonstrates the main difference between the clubs. On that issue, CAMC wins hands down for user friendliness and adaptability and I find it unfortunate that people complain about CAMC's system and want to drag it closer to that of C&CC.

I take on board what you say but I was trying to establish if there was any basis to them calling themselves the Friendly Club? The CMC have no real premis for being considered a tent camping Club. In the past they have only done it to serve conditions of a lease and because they don't really want to do it they put the tent pitches in some corner out of the way which is as close they dare come to discouraging tent campers. OK things have changed more recently with a positive encouragement of tenting on some sites. On some CMC sites the camping areas are quite nice. Blackhorse Farm is one example where the tents pitch in a separate, traffic free, area next to a toilet block. Given the constant backwards and forwards of vehicles on the average CMC site I think if I were a tenter I would prefer a nice quiet spot!

I am trying to envisage a chapter of hells angels rocking up on a CMC site, no doubt would have to be followed by a group of ambulances to take those with an attack of the vapours to hospital!!!

Unfortunately by its own admission the C&MC system is misused (check out the response to questions at the AGM) Stop the ease with which you can cancel and the system would be fine.

You are almost right. 😁 The last time we camped on a Club Site was at Wincanton Racecourse. Just our small tent and and two others, couple of Dutch motorcyclists touring SW. We had a good quarter mile walk to the loos and showers, but we did have a very nice time sat outside watching the sunset with those two very nice gents. Beers shared, food shared, we sent them on their way to Cornwall with our spare map marked with some good sites and must see places.

Club Sites clientele nowadays is very predictable. The main differences occur between weekends and mid week, and between term time and school holidays. Slightly more families weekends and holiday time, but still often with grand parents. Sites that have a lot to do adjacent, such as Yellowcraig, Clumber will attract more families. Big catchment areas as well.

Over the years we've seen a few groups of older bikers turn up at Dunnet Bay and set up camp in tents.

Wow, that'll be motorcyclists and tents on a CAMC site, no less!! 😂😂

I have yet to find one where I can control the temperature.

I have visited 10 sites in the last two previous years. One was no facility. One there was only two showers for the males and people waiting at 6.30am and I did not bother to check after previous experience 8 facility sites. I cannot use hot showers on my mid and lower back.

Sandringham and St Neots both have push button showers ,both quite modern/refubished ,it may be what are fitted at that time

Certainly one of those visited was St Neots and I have read comment on C&CC forum in the past about refurbished showers using push button.

I should correct myself here. One of the 8 was I think affiliated in some (Polstead I think) way and was I think not a normal C&CC site and I think it had older adjustable temperature showers ,

My guesses  of how the future will unfold for the Club - and they are only guesses as I don't have the statistics which Club managers have - but here goes.

The number of motorhomes will in the future surpass the number of caravans and changes will happen as a result.

Motorhomers who have been Club members and are switching from caravans will initially continue to use Club sites - but their bookings will be for shorter stays as they tour and move rather than stay.

As the new motorhomers discover the other options open to them and as more Aires become available in the UK, the bookings by those motorhomers  on Club sites will reduce.

Some Club sites in rural locations without good public transport will prove to be unpopular with motorhomers and will be harder hit than others.

CLs in grass fields will see a reduction in trade and will continue to dwindle.

Families with children will more and more patronise places like Center Parcs and Featherdown  Farms which are more attractive  to them than the present style of Club sites.

Independent campsites will adapt and improve more quickly than the Club.

But those are just my guesses.

Unless there is vast investment in charging infrastructure ,or hydrogen outlets? then i cannot see motor caravans or touring caravans still being viable holiday accommodation in the future

Might not be so curious really. We have only been members for 3 years and the information I picked up on C&CC forum is this happens during recent upgrades.

Nothing to do with Site reviews ET, these are people’s views on the C&CC as an organisation.
