GPS Coordinates
Has anyone else found that when using the GPS coordinates from the sites' handbook in conjunction with Google Earth the resulting location is frequently shown some distance away from the actual location. I've been looking at CLs for next year and at least half that I have looked at have not been in the right place, sometimes as far as a mile away. Whilst most CLs can be eventually found by careful viewing of G.E. there are others that are too tucked away to be easily visible from the air. Is it the handbook or is it Google Earth that is at fault?

I have done the same as David for Archie in the past. However I think it is slightly easier with a proper campsite compared to a CL. What we don't know is how the coordinates in the handbook are arrived at. Has someone taken the location from a GPS device at the entrance to the CL or have they taken the coordinates from a map? A millimetre out on a map would in reality some way from where you want to be. As an aside here in MK we have a GPS guided robot delivery service from our local Co-Op. When I have had a play around with the software I can't get it to record my house number. It selects the house either side of mine so is this an issue with Google Maps?

There are certainly issues with google maps. If you put in our house number and road, it gives you a location a street away and shows a picture of somebody else's house, however says it is our address? If you were to use the GPS coordinates you would be significantly out. Some numbers in our road are just a house out, others are like ours several hundred metres.
