I was just going to write the same, WN. He certainly surprised nearly everyone, and although he only claimed the leader's pink jersey after the last stage he had won 2 of the race's mountain stages.

It has turned out a decent year for Ineos (Sky as was) after all, after the near disaster of the Tour de France, and then losing their first choice rider for the Giro, Geraint Thomas due to him having a crash and subsequent fractured shoulder, just before stage 3, because of an errant water bottle. They now also have the current leader of the Vuelta,Β Richard Carapaz.

Excellent win, a very cool head on young shoulders. Watching him ride that TT was marvellous, particularly as the camera was switching between him and the Australian in pink, Jai Hindley, such a difference in style. They have both done extremely well. Don’t forget the Ineos rider who won the stage as well, Ganna. What a machine he was. I thought it might be a quiet year for Ineos, but the Giro has exceeded expectations.Β

First saw TGH at Tour of Britain, then a bit later he came 8th in Tour of Yorkshire. Only second Brit to win Giro.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

He lies in 41st position, 44 second behind the leader, after 3 stages. Tomorrow, in the mountains, should produce a shake up after the flat, sprinter stages.

    Correct Nellie,Β  There was a distinct shake-up today !

And he was seen today --Β  alas it was by the Medics of the tour and the local hospital 'cos he did the difficult trick of falling off his 'bike & doing a three point landing on his Face, Head and Knee ( His words not mineΒ undecided ) I'm just pleased he's relatively ok, just a tad confused obviously ~~ How does one land on ones face and, separately, ones headΒ  I ask myself. Still the medics got it right and he has withdrawn from the competition I believe.
