Lots of sites, both Club and CL have wonderful dog walking opportunities, very close by. this is where using some sort of map, be it paper or on a gadget works very well. All you need to do is look at the location of a site you fancy and look for footpaths, bridleways and forests.

I could have suggested Sandringham Site for EA, however it and the Thetford Forest suffer from known cases of Seasonal Canine Syndrome, which is a killer this time of year, so we avoid. You can however walk out the gates of White House Beach Club Site near Lowestoft straight onto beach.

There are few Club Sites that don’t have a decent dog walk. (Bristol, Castleton, Hebden Bridge don’t ). Get used to doing a bit of pre touring research and it will pay dividends👍😁

But the OP is a member and we are members so £12 p/n extra does not enter the equation.

I don’t understand your opening sentence but I suggest we agree to disagree as it's pretty much hypothetical.

All Club sites and even commercial ones demand a dog is kept on a lead. Some do have exercise fields and then you may be able to let your dog off. A couple of C&MC sites that spring to mind are Morton in Marsh and Ramslade. You can always look at maps to see where the nearest public footpaths are to a site. I have a full set of OS maps which I often use to see exactly where a site is located and in what surroundings.

It is if you get what you want. When we go to France we stay at totally different and much cheaper sites than in the U.K. We don't do it because it represents great value for money but because it's where we want to go and we particularly like the municipal sites and now Aires.

Similarly in this country our average cost per night probably works out in the mid to high  20's. Again we consider it good value for money beacause we are staying / visiting  where we want to go.

I don't know how many night's we've been away this year or how much we have paid.

We have done what we wanted when and where we wanted.

If the price was more than I was willing to pay then I didn't book it.

We have used both CAMC,  C&Cc sites and CLs

The CAMC sites at times are very expensive when compared to sites overseas, we've been on sites in France and Belgium that do not increase their price just because its a holiday weekend. Can you say the same for CAMC

I looked at a price comparison site for peak season camping in Europe inc the Uk which came 10th, Switzerland topped the list followed by italy and Croatia. This might surprise some of the nay sayers but the local cost of living affects the overall ratings.

That is where the nay sayers will gloss over (ignore)what costs are when complaining about UK prices ,it is nearly always those who travel abroad in the off peak periods , when as in the uk families normally  subsidise those who travel out of the main holiday period with much higher fees

That's why it's a moveable debate trying to compare prices and it doesn't work. You could find a lovely CL in the UK off peak and save even more, no ferries, extra fuel or insurance etc. Depends on where you want to go and at what time.

I just booked a 5 star commercial site, hard standing 16A EHU with a proper MSP, 3 nights mid week for £38. I could have had a fully service pitch for £42.

I know you do David, but some of us like other places and I think we all think our own choices are best and probably don't think about the actual price very often. smile

A farming family a few miles from here have been running a campsite for nearly 30 years and it has now grown to 35 pitches.  Their charges are not increased in the summer peak season and remain at £17 for a grass pitch and £19 for hard standing - both including electricity.

... resulted in up to a dozen or more price bands per year.

Just a dozen would be a huge understatement! 😉 They seem to change rates every other week & change again over the week end.

I sometimes think that CMC site pitch and person prices are converted from another currency as its the only way to explain all these oddities!!!!  Surely each site only needs a high and low season price and if there was need for discounting at certain times just make the MWD more widely available?

And does this comercial site cater just for tourers ? or like many including the one we use (except this year) are mainly holiday homes and pods,  we normally pay at beginning of November for 3 nights for a weekend serviice pitch £16 a night cool

But if we had the same at peak times it is nearly £80 per nightfrown

It has a large static area (Mobile homes) separate from  the touring section which caters for tents, caravans and motorhomes. I used them earlier in the year in August and liked the site and locality. I paid £21 a night then and the site was full. You do pay extra for dogs but an awning is included in the above pitch price.

I would tend to agree in relation to the whole of the Easter peak period, which spans some 18 days, at a time of the year when the weather can be very variable. Although this applies to all sites.

For the actual bank holiday they have the pricing about right, as most sites will be full for three days. However, over the rest of the period many will have significant vacancies and if the  drop back to the shoulder prices was earlier, they might attract more punters.

Would be very interested in the name, facilities and location of this site. Less than £8/night, bargain any time of year.

We go for off-grid CL/CS, THS. The caravan has all the facilities we need for hygiene etc.

Refillable gas bottles and solar panels take care of energy requirements.

As an example take a look at Tredinnick Farm near Looe. £7 a night for a nice flat, well drained pitch. Nice views, loads of space and peace and quiet. Fresh water and chemical disposal. Oh yes, and a farm shop and cafe within walking distance.

    What more do you need?

    Moderator Edit:

Just a reminder that this is the UK Sites and Touring Section. If you want to recommend CLs please can you post in the Certificated Location Section where other members with an interest might more easily find it.

    Many Thanks.
