Can anyone suggest the best route for car & caravan travelling from Pontefract West Yorkshire to Buxton. The route planner goes via the Woodhead pass, is this a viable route? or is via Chesterfield a better / safer option.

Not used the Woodhead route but have visited Buxton site many times going via Chesterfield. According to google it takes a similar time.  It's a good route towing. If you do use it, don't go into Buxton on the A6, the last bit of that is horrible, turn off onto the A5270 and approach the site via Harpur Hill.

If I was doing it I would go via Chesterfield, round the back of Bakewell after Baslow to Ashford-in-the-Water and up to Buxton via the A6.

Agree with both of the above. M1, A617, A619, A6020, A6, A5270, A515, then up to site via Harpur Hill.
