Any Knaus Starclass owners?

We've just traded our beloved Bailey in and we've started the learning curve with a two berth Knaus

We've worked out most of the differences now but there's one thing puzzling us.  Above the wheel arch there's a channel which looks like it's meant to take an awning skirt but nothing seems to fit.  Does anyone know what it's for?

I think the same arrangement is on Burstner vans as well

We have a 2017 Starclass 480. Very pleased with it as it's very well built. The channel above the awning skirt is there to take a wheel cover but we've never been able to get one of the same shape, so we just fit a normal square one into the channel. It does look a bit bunched up but does the job ok. I think Knaus work with Walker Awnings in Germany but not sure if they would supply one of these.

The other quirk of the Starclass is that the awning channel is a special shape and won't accept a standard Isabella awning. Isabella have therefore produced small adaptors that fit brilliantly and hold the awning in the correct position for fitting.

I hope you'll be as pleased with your new caravan as we have been with our Knaus.

If you find the right product for the wheel arch channel please let us know via this forum.

    Hi handsj

Bought a 2019 Starclass 695 earlier this year but not yet used enough to try erecting our full size Isabella awning. Can you expand on the awning channel issue and the Isabella solution? I'd hate to get on site at some point in the future and belatedly discover we couldn't erect the awning.

Yes, we threaded our 2016 Isabella Ambassador awning through the channel and were surprised that when we clamped the Isabella hook clips (onto the channel sewn into the fabric) then their protective pads didn't reach to sit squarely onto the side of the caravan immediately under the awning rail. It all looked very awkward and would've strained the fabric. So I phoned Isabella UK office and they said they'd come up with a fix.

After a short delay they sent us a set of 3 small white adaptors. We simply thread each adaptor into the awning channel then clamp each Isabella hook clip onto the adaptor. It all fits nicely and has proved to be a neat yet strong solution.

The problem stems from the cross section size of the Knaus awning rail, it's a very strong yet bulky design. Would recommend that you speak to Isabella.
