I wonder if anyone else has been watching this series on ITV which ended tonight. It is about  the arrest and conviction of the mass murderer Dennis Nilsen, excellently played, in my view, by David Tennant. It is quite harrowing although the series tends to concentrate on the motives of why he killed. Always interesting to see how the police have to work and how precise they have to be if they don't want a case to collapse. Other main actors were Daniel Mays as the Chief Inspector and Jason Watkins who wrote a biography of Nilsen.

(Just a shame it was on ITV.... those b******* adverts.)

We always record programmes with adverts so we can skip through them. So last three nights we started watching at 9.15pmwink

One thing that particularly struck me about the court scenes is how vulnerable people can be destroyed in the witness box. I appreciate that it's the job of the court to prove the accused was guilty but you do wonder how many people would put themselves through that sort of inquisition?

There was an interesting follow up documentary last night on Dennis Nilsen. narrated by David Tennant. They interviewed some of the detectives who worked on the case.

As an aside there have, apparently, been lots of complains about the Des series, not about the graphic content but about the amount of smoking that went on!!!

Both myself and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the series, thought David Tennant played the part superbly. Couldn't believe that some people complained to Offcom about the graphic details.  Snowflakes are early this year 😀.

Don't think people complained about the graphic details as you say but the amount of smoking being portrayed. In 40 years the attitudes to smoking have changed out of all recognition. Although I have never smoked both my parents did and even to me it seem excessive the amount of smoking going on although I imagine to was a pretty accurate picture of the time?

Sorry David I beg to differ . Every report I've read online relating to Offcom / Des , only mention the graphic details upsetting people , and not the smoking . To be honest it's laughable that people would complain about either .The truth behind the crime, or the smoking that was so prevalent then . Still a damn fine series .😁.
