Taking responsibility

We are coming to the end of four weeks of touring the UK coastline using a mix of club sites, CLs and other sites including free pub stops. It gives an interesting insight into how we are all dealing with keeping safe and observing regulations. In general I have to say that club sites are working better than most keeping facilities open by restricting numbers. Most independents just close toilet and showers as the easiest option.

On our latest stop we were issued the rubber wristbands when we arrived to hang outside the toilets to restrict the numbers inside. My wife was surprised to find five bands on the six hooks but only one woman inside. Perhaps there are a lot of forgetful people or maybe gaming the system? Either way a reminder we all need to play our part and take personal responsibility for our own safety but also have respect for others in these difficult times.

Thanks to all the owners and workers on the sites who have worked so hard to keep us all touring.

Hi, We have just been on a two week rally on a commercial site where the approach was different.

Rather than introduce restrictions on numbers controlled by systems, that appear to cause confusion going by comments on CT etc, they had an increased cleaning frequency and duration with each of the four blocks being cleaned 4 times a day with one session lasting over two hours and including the use of a misting type machine.

The site was very busy but at no time did we feel uncomfortable and the indoor facilities we used, the shop and on site restaurant, had all expected controls in place.

I did smile at the sites request that all units be placed in the centre of the pitch with the access door facing the road, so across the pitch, and almost all the ralliers complied but many non ralliers did not.

We also witnessed an example of how rumours start and grow with a mention to one person of the site needing to ‘police’ the numbers on site being related to others as the police would be attending on departure day, yesterday, to ensure vans left by 0900!

Hi David, pitching across the pitch is our preference so not an issue for us but some were a little miffed, being good members and  following  the request, to see others, not on the rally, pitching ‘in line’.

Shop was interesting as they had a ‘no mask no service’ rule and face coverings did not meet their requirement.

Had a great time with plenty of kayaking, 5 of us from around the country,  and a great laugh when we landed on a small beach in Mevagissey Harbour and started shouting Bonjour to passers by!

I did tell them later about the legend of the monkey that was hanged by locals believing it to be a French spy!

We have done a mix of CLs and Small private Sites. Some had loos open with frequent cleaning, some had them closed. Some had no facilities at all. Not an issue for us as we fully intended only using our onboard facilities. It did give us more choice of sites, but appreciate this choice isn’t for everyone.

We are keeping our proximity to other humans as small as possible, so Club Sites at the moment don’t feature. Besides, sheep can be more endearing..........😂

We're on a 3 week tour of Norfolk and Suffolk, mainly on small sites as Club sites all booked up! All sites we've been on have had good cleaning regimes, plenty of hand sanitiser stations, and no one trying to 'game' or dodge the rules, so far.

We're now on a club site with wristbands and hooks, a system that's working well; however, a member of the staff told me that he found several bands when he cut the long grass over the fence beside the toilet entrance! If you're stupid rather than cunning, that's one way to get an empty peg!

Hi, It was a rally on a commercial site and it was the site that requested the pitching arrangement.

This appeared to be complied with 100% by ralliers but not 100% by non ralliers.

Not sure what you mean re ‘big rally’ but there are 4 toilet blocks that are closed in rotation to allow for cleaning, three times for 1 hour and once for 2.25 hrs.

At no time did we feel ‘unsafe’ and whilst we have not stayed on a club site can’t see the advantage of reducing the facilities available.

Just been to loo at 10 pm before going to bed (old person). Mine was only band on the hooks. I heard someone else in there and when I came out my band was gone! My band has another miniband on it with 'CHASNCATH'  inked on it so if you're at Gt Yarmouth, bring my band back ! I'm on pitch 103yell

I haven't used a site loo this year.  We use our own facilities these days and have used serviced pitches for the last 18 months.  It means we take less stuff with us too!!
