Just come back from a pleasant 2 nights at the Kendal site. On arrival, the extremely cheerful warden disconcertingly referred to me by name before I could introduce myself. She also quoted the length of my motorhome (8m with the bike rack) telling me there were only a few pitches left that were suitable for this length. She marked on the plan the available pitches saying they were all marked by a bollard i.e. reserved for long vehicles. I headed for one in an area where I had parked before but unfortunately the spot had been taken by a small camper van with its awning out and pegged - the individual ignoring the bollard. Luckily there was a warden nearby who sensibly used his discretion not to move the individual. He said he would take to a suitable pitch. The first would have required parking diagonally and he was not happy with the separation to other nearby vans. The next pitch he took me to was really good - no pitches to either side and long enough. I wish I had asked his name but he has a South African accent. As I was not intending to use the facilities or take my van out of the site he said the would register my name against the pitch saving me a walk back to the office. An extremely pleasant gentleman. The welcome received from these 2 wardens made for the start of a pleasant weekend.

I happen to have been fore warned about some of the very small pitches at YRP, and that small outfits sometimes get shoved into them. Hence our little MH grows a metre when we book to go there😂
Only time we stayed on a CCC Site, it was just re opening after flooding. (Haltwhistle, or is it Haydon Bridge🤔) We were the only ones on the Site. The Warden insisted on showing us to a pitch, which involved driving all the way around the still very wet Site, to end up around 10 metres from reception where we set off! We were fascinated by the need for such control........🤣

We have just had a week on a site where rhe pitches are alocated your name and pitch number are on a blackboard ,it works but then it is a site where no one complains it seems whatever size and where they are pitched

A heartwarming story but if the club had a decent booking system you would have the fact that your unit is 8M logged in the booking system then when you booked you would be advised of suitable available pitches and let you choose your pitch.
You could have then turned up, found your pitch, no need for any interaction, job done.
What exactly would you have done if you had turned up just after 3 or 4 other 8m rigs? Would maybe not have been a pleasant weekend.

CS, I really dont know where you get the idea that whilst the club sites are busy that the commercials have plenty of space. This is just not factual. Most are booked solid through October, I know I have been trying to book.
The reasons that sites are busy at the moment have nothing to with the service they offer, to suggest otherwise is folly.

If the Club allowed folk to choose pitches before arrival, it would be unlikely to maximize occupancy. In reality, this would mean it would be far more difficult for people to get a 'continuous' pitch, and therefore would discourage people for booking. As it is at the moment, there are those who already say they find it difficult to book a pitch. Booking specific pitches would make it more difficult without changing pitches during your stay. This would discourage people from booking and, could result in a lower overall occupancy.
With folk booking in this way, there would, potentially be odd spaces on site, and those who wished to book later on would have no choice but to change pitches during their stay, or not to book. A lower occupancy could result in an increase in pitch price in order to compensate.
At present, the Club is not inclined to allow members to book a hardstanding or grass pitch before arriving, so to choose specific pitches is an unlikely first move, in my opinion.....

We were at Kendal last month and the South African couple were extremely helpful. They were at Wharfdale last year and were exactly the same, helped a couple pitch who were having difficulties and always a cheery wave when doing the rounds.

We have just come back from a commecial family run touring site that we managed to get a pitch,for a week, as did several others when speaking to them while there, although two others had tried cc sites but only odd days were available and it was the same with a ccc member,
The site has got good reviews and we may also use it again,if it stays open as the owner (a farmer) has got planning permision to install pds and holiday homes
ps the ccc members was saying that their clubs managers were pulling their hair out at times with the booking system as it was causing problems with pitch type bookings as some members were complaining about empty Hardstands "waiting for the next booking"

It was a very moot point when in conversation ,on the site as with as posted on here, it is quite a conversation piece it seems
Other conversations were about the very active situation at present and the lack it seems of social distancing by some
but then it seems as though some are not so sociable when away

Very simply where I get it from, is that there are weekly sometimes daily 'complaints' that people can't get pitches? In the same thread people post they should be trying non club sites as they appear to have more space.
Additionally club sites have been popular even before this year.

Indeed! Not an uncommon occurance, whether pitches are allocated or not. Some people will take what they can to benefit themselves.
Then there are the operators of long units that want to be on a hard standing pitch and will not settle for less - even though one end of their outfit is sticking out into the roadway and the other end could have been hung over the grass beyond the end of "their" hard standing.
And now Bailey are producing small trailer caravans that have an awning that does down one side and across the rear. C and CC are warning that these will not fit their standard pitches and a Jumbo pitch should be booked to accomodate them.

I relocated yesterday from Chelmsford, having been unable to find anything in the Woodbridge area, to St Neots C&CC. Was allocated a pitch and was just grateful that I had one. I'm parked in the sunshine for the solar panel (non EHU grass) and have a windscreen view of the river. Taking what you're given ain't so bad.

There was one opposite us at Malvern CAMC site. It fitted easily on a standard hardstanding pitch. We haven't stopped on a C&CC site yet, (all cancelled due to lockdown) their pitches must be really small.

Some are but not all. It is usually the older sites that have smaller pitches. Hard standings are usually just enough for an LV which is great for a motorhome and with larger areas of grass they look less like car parks.

Would not have suited me this weather ...... I like some shade . Stayed there twice. First time it was near 90f we had waited 20 mins by the car in sweltering sun. Showed us to pitch in full sun. 'No thanks I want the one over there shadowed by two spreading trees' the response was 'but it's in the shade'
Why would I want full sun in that weather?

We like to pick out own pitch, and as we tend to go to the same two or three sites, know what suits us.
But however good a pitch seems when you arrive, it can all change the next day when someone arrives on the next pitch with yappy dogs/enormous awning and dog "garden"/loud television/flappy flags/Blackpool illuminations (delete as appropriate).
