It all comes down to 'no bickering, name calling, disagreeing, use of inflammatory language, upsetting other peoples sensitivities etc. or you will be moderated.'

Thus producing a totally bland format for a forum.  Do not disagree!

History teaches us that nothing good ever comes of censorship. It’s sometimes uncomfortable when people can say (responsibly) what they think. To some those views are offensive, but to others it’s inspiring and a catalyst for change - some might feel this Club is in need of change!

All of us can decide what we’re offended by and avoid it. There are some on here who I fundamentally disagree with most of the time, but I have no objection whatsoever to them posting here as long as they accept that I’ll challenge them when I disagree - some of that might be robust, but we’re all big boys & girls here. I can’t see any circumstances in which I’d report a post.

Agree 100% with that - the forum might not be very active at the moment,  but I have been, walking various stretches of the SW coast path.  Haven't looked in on the forum much until tonight and I have to say that, having just looked at that closed AO thread anyone who thinks it was started for any reason other than provoking the, oh so usual, arguments is, frankly deluding themselves and I am surprised that any experienced users of this forum should attempt to defend it.

So are you saying that you think that particular thread was started for a genuine discussion? You obviously haven't been around on CT as long as I have, Bill! undecided

I may not have the benefit of your wisdom, but I’d be prepared to give them a go. Certainly wouldn’t offend me and I’ve got the choice to read/respond or not. What’s the problem?

The problem, Bill, is that "history" (as far as this forum is concerned) makes it entirely predictable where that particular thread would have gone and it's delusional to pretend otherwise. frown

Didn’t people used to say things like that when some folks had new fangled ideas about the world being round?

There was nothing "new fangled" about the particular thread being discussed. If it had simply been a discussion about the pros and cons of adult only sites it would have been entirely legitimate. The fact that it attempted to justify itself by referring to children and dogs was a blatant provocation  and, in my view, justified the early closure. I'm quite content for others to draw their own conclusions about the OP's motivation.

Sorry, Bill, I'm going to stop now as we're getting close to discussing moderation.

A bit OTT there I think.

We're not taking about a totalitarian regime, or even a democratic government, forcing censorship on to its people or across a country, and usually in such cases  there is no escape from that regime or country.

We're talking about about CT, it has not been forced upon us, where we all joined of our own free will and can all leave at any time if we don't like it's rules and regulations or like the way it is moderated.

But while we remain and post then we must abide by them.

And I disagree about deciding if one feels offended. It should not come down to that at all.

People can and do disagree, I don't expect anyone to agree with my posts, but there should not be anything in that disagreement that causes offence.

There is no place for comments like Bore number 2 replies or that people get jumped on by one or three regulars, or mention of cronies, or another bizzare pointless exchange...

Simple argue your point without anything offensive or personal.

I tried to be an active member of this forum.

As a moderator on another forum with something like 200+ new posts a day I only had limited time to come here but always valued my time on this forum because of the sheer friendliness and help from members when asked for.

However, as TW comments, around post 3 I think, the software is antiquated, not fit for purpose and so slow it became a pain to just try and enter into anything resembling a vigorous discussion. I have lost count when trying to log on that the forum has been down, not available for scheduled maintenance or so slow that I could go to the pub, enter the pub quiz, come back and google all the questions I got the wrong answer for and still wait for it to finish loading up.

Sad really. The Caravan Club I believe has over 500,000 members. That is one hell of a resource to be sharing information and hints and tips but sadly the support for this forum is so sadly lacking that for all but the most dedicated it is a waste of time.

It seems to me some people only post when they have something to say.

Other people have nothing to say and say it endlessly.   A least it must provide employment for someone to delete all the posts by the usual suspects over the weekend.

The fact that software is not fit for purpose really can’t be disputed.   While in the context of a discussion forum it is irritating but ultimately trivial.  It does concerns me greatly that it may reflect, the standard of competence, of the IT systems of the club as a whole.   This becomes a real worry,  if I am handing over my credit card details, I worry about security to a degree that I just don’t on other online sites.

There is nothing wrong with people only posting when they have something to say.

There is nothing wrong with people posting simply to join in with the chatter but there is something wrong with people posting criticising those who do this and name calling by way of using a group name to describe them. Something which contravenes the guidelines and is usually Deleted User.

Your concerns regarding the IT of the whole site are shared by many.

Yes the CT part is terribly slow, beset with errors and not fit I fully agree, but the booking part is working fine isn't it? I've just booked three sites for next year and it was as quick as can be with no server errors or other problems.

And really isn't that the side that matters more and is used the most by most members. Looking at the reviews that come up under latest activity there are countless names that never use this forum at all. Yet they all can manage their bookings I assume with no problems?

While we all agree how bad CT is I do wonder why we all keep using it? One of life's mysteries.

I agree with the above comments.

Unfortunately this thread has become a platform for a few demoralising posts from sources who wish to ignore the T&Cs.
