i thought that cl sites were only supposed to allow 5 or 6 caravans on there site ??

just visited loch earn for a wee fishing trip today and they have a cl site run by drummond estates

it had 15 caravans on it ?? and have room for at least another 12  when i asked them about the numbers they said it has just been inspected by the club and the inspector gave them the thumbs up ?

what the hell is going on in the club !!!!!!

This needs reporting directly to the club.  In theory, you only have their word that a sites inspector said it's okay.

Post like this make me boil, we own a CL in Cornwall and we are constantly being told about other sites exceeding the 5 van limit and they all seem to get away with it!

We always adhere to the limit so please support us if you are in Cornwall and like our Facebook page!

It's not clear whether you are staying or just visiting for the fishing.

There is only one solution to this and that is to notify the club. If you have evidence it would help.

Thanks for the thumbs up. I have that site pencilled in for a possible stay next Spring

Why did you stay? You should have turned round and gone away as soon as you saw they were over the limit.

Unfortunately this is not the first time I've seen this question raised about this CL.

We have passed it a few times and there were more than 5 vans on it then. As we were not staying there we couldn't be certain they were all occupied.

It's a shame that some do break the rules while others adhere to them.

I suspect we all thought that  "just visited loch earn for a wee fishing trip today and they have a cl site run by drummond estates..."  meant that you visited with your caravan in order to go fishing. 🎣

Here's a LINK to the Drummond Estate Caravan park where it says 10 vans can be accomodated. Are they running two CL sites as some places do?

Perhaps one for the club and one commercial in a separate field?

It says that it is a CL in it's bumph....see below!!

The site is a Certified Location open to Caravan Club members and is restricted to a maximum of ten vans at a time.

Perhaps someone would be kind enough to report this post and then we may get a response from Ro or Maddie.

Yes that's why I pointed out that it could be operating 2 CLs as some places do. No idea about excessive vans on site as stated by the OP but there are sites which split themselves for private and CL etc.

    Hi All,

Thank you for your comments regarding Drummond Fish Farm, this location is a Certificated Location and also has a separate commercial site. We have been working closely with the CL Owner to work on improving the demarcation between the two sites to prevent any confusion for Club Members and those fishing at the site. Due to the events of this year this has been delayed but we are hoping to have the improvements completed as soon as possible.

    Thanks

    Maddie

It really is time at least to make it compulsory for CL's like this to make it clear in the CL entry that there is a commercial site adjacent. The club are wrong and very misleading by not enforcing a minimum set distance between the two sites. When I book a CL I expect to be one of a maximum of five vans as per the regulations and not to be looking at another five vans on an adjacent site.

While we stick to a 60 odd year antiquated rule things will only get worse. To make a CL viable they need more than 5 units. Its a cash business mainly. With less pitches and more vaners ( just see the scramble for places this summer) people will take more vans its just nature.  Either put up with it or get the authorities to look at the 5 rule.

Do you think that CMC are actively lobbying for an increase? Now would seem a good time to do so

My views are consistent. The 5 rule CMC and 5 + 10  for CCC are antiquated. The Cl network will continue to decline as owners move to other ways. Over occupancy will continue to rise and no one monitors it ( the club, local auth or Nat Park). That is reality.

I am currently at a CL in Derbyshire. We chose the site carefully and read all reviews. At the moment there are eleven vans on site. We deliberately chose not to go to Clubsites in these Covid-19 times. We feel cheated that we are on this site with so many others. I will report it. It is possible that three of the vans are under a separate agreement with the Farmer, but even so there are eight vans, three that should not be here.

Like most companies these days the highest cost is normally staff   and those who will flout any regulation/rules know they are not likely to  be "caught" with very few staff to monitor them

The clubs CL inspectors are i understand  ,are "volunteers" on an expences only basis?

to get any change to legislation it would need all "interested "?parties to be involved

we stayed on an Adults only site last week that used to be two cls,  and neither club were interested before , as it was to be Adults only cls/cs but the local authority agreed to make it into a commercial site so now has 15pitches

The local authorities look at pitches and the 15 coincides with that of thy CCC. There is no difference today between vans and tents in their books. The position will only accelerate as C:l move to commercial with no difficulty. The difference between 5 & 15 means they can be sustainable.

When we arrived there were four vans. We had booked and we made the fifth van on site. Then people just kept coming. Are you suggesting we should leave!
