Not very active forum...

I've rejoined the Club after quite a few years. The forums are not as active as they might be. Yes you can pay £15 to join more active groups but wouldn't it be good if this forum, which we have paid for after all, could become a little more active and responsive by members using it more. (Or maybe I have found it too hard to find what I'm looking for!?)

    Hello.

I'm not sure why you posted in the overseas section but, yes, it would be good if more folk used the forum. Spread the word.

May I suggest that, via your profile, you change that silly allocated user name to one of your choice? There may even be people here who would remember you from your earlier membership.

And here's me thinking we all have to change our profile name to "ScreenName" followed by a number of the clubs choice. Haha. It seems to be catching with new members.

I think the fact that we are living in very different time to this  time last year has changed the complexion of the discussions as people aren't really doing things as they did. You don't have to be a member to use this forum so I am not sure the comparison is valid. You pay a membership fee for the wider use of Club facilities. You can of course raise your own questions or join in with other discussions.

I joined the club as I am a single traveller so find the rates very good and know that the sites will always be of a good, very reasonable and often excellent standard (which often commercial sites are not). The Club provides a discussion forum but I doubt if the membership fee would be different, whether there is a discussion forum or not. I didn't join the Club to spend most of my time reading or posting comments on the discussion group. It is something that I do sometimes read and do sometimes ask for advice or post comments on and the information is often, quite useful, but I would still be a member, whether the discussion group existed or not.

Instead of regulars postulating about the reason it would be nice to hear from others like Boff who don't post regularly or even only just read the forums occasionally. So come on don't be shy, it would be good to have your views.

With reference to your post “(Or maybe I have found it too hard to find what I'm looking for!?)”  Just a suggestion if you post your question(s) someone may be able to help you find what you are looking for.

With reference to member participation on CT I suspect many more members/non-members read than post.  I personally have found over time various useful information including things not related to using my LV.

I read and post sometimes but neither on a regular basis.

Apparently there is an 'accepted forum rule'..... (the details of which I've well and truly forgotten,) which says something like 95% of folk read posts and about 5% actually post...  (I'm sure someone will know the exact wording and figures.)

I think any forum has periods of greater or lesser activity.  Caravan sites are quite busy at the moment, so it could be that many are out and about in their 'vans instead of sitting at home posting?

The forum is always quieter when people are away, normally this is through summer but I think this has extended due the circumstances of this year. September seems to be the new August. wink

At least we have a forum and without a group of "regulars" it might have faded out.

Good to see new people joining. smile

I don't come onto the forum often now as the website is so slow! Cannot believe that a business like the CAMC can't get its act together with this website.

Well this site used to be more active, with varying protagonists, however the moderators seem to be a bit heavy handed so now it is relatively mundane.

It is boringly stupefying, without soul, so although I still trawl through, it certainly is not as good as it was say 2 yrs. ago.

Don't give up hope, stick with it, and you may still find the occasional gem within these walls.

"I joined the club as I am a single traveller so find the rates very good and know that the sites will always be of a good, very reasonable and often excellent standard (which often commercial sites are not)."

I generally use Commercials which generally are of a higher standard of the club sites, bigger pitches, fully serviced, excellent facilities and quite often at a lower rate than comparable to club sites. I occasionally also use club sites, no issues with them, but your assertion that club sites are better than commercials is just not true. Commercial sites live or die by their rating, they can not afford to be poor. The affiliated sites are commercials and groups like Morris have sites with standards that the club can only dream of having.

We are all different. I have used several Morris sites but far prefer CMC sites. I disagree with your last statement but we all have our own opinions

but your assertion that club sites are better than commercials is just not true

We all have different perceptions of what is a good site. I certainly believe that club sites are far better than commercials for a great number of reasons. You believe otherwise and that is fine but to say it is not true is just your view , it is not the truth

But again many have posted that while it is difficult to get a club pitch at the moment yet it is also been posted that many commercials have plenty of space, one has to ask why this is? If these commercials are better as in your last sentence why don't they have the same occupancy rates as the club?

We have only stayed at two ML. Stanmore Hall and Riverside at Betws-y-Coed. The grounds of the site at Stanmore were certainly exceptional, much better than anything I have seen on a club site. However facility / pitch quality wise it was very similar. Riverside I thought not as good as the average club site. Not an attractive approach through a static area and a very low ratio of facilities to occupants. Our service pitch necessitated buying another length of food grade hose (unsurprisingly on sale in the shop) as the water tap was over 10 metres from our van. Price wise Riverside was very similar to The club for the time of year.

I have used Stanmore  Hall, Oxon, Ludlow and Betws Y Coed. They were OK but I would not rave about them. Pleasant to stroll around he lake at Stanmore on the odd evening.

Oxon was £31 in Sept and current offer is £27.

Similar price to CMC at Southport which is a relatively popular and in the more expensive range of CMC site without pool or restaurant.

Of course you also get a VAT reduction at present for CMC sites, no idea about Morris

    Thread drift
Morris site often have a 3 nights for the price of 2 in low season.  Not sure if it is current or will even apply this year.  But useful because we have used it to have a late departure on a Sunday.

    To add to the drift....

Stayed at Ludlow site a while back, nothing you could fault in terms of facilities, all the bells & whistles you could expect but clinical and soulless place. Very expensive and staff phoned to hassle me about arrival time even though I was planning to arrival within their advertised check-in times.

So the club has thought long and hard about extending membership for the 3 months they remained closed, obviously not hard enough.

you mean as it didn't come up with the option that one wished for it didn't think long and hard about it?

I'm sure it did and made the best choice as thought by those who made it and run the club?

I saw both the posts about AO and another one about AO and Dogs. Right from the first post, somewhat inflammatory phrases were in use, so bound to end up in arguments. No surprise they were moderated really. 🤷‍♀️

Well we all agree to abide by the guidelines and none of us are forced to join CT.

    As you asked nicely....

    Link

No more inflammatory than posts about Dorset Knob biscuits which have also been censored  today. I quite enjoy them with some Blue Vinney rather than dunked in tea which is a bit neanderthal.
