What is it about flags?
We are currently on an Affiliated site which is very nice and well run and has fabulous sea views but after two disturbed nights due to gale force winds and another because of torrential rain hammering on the roof we were hoping for a peaceful night as the weather seems to be settling a little.
Alas, it seems not to be as a couple of pitches down from us a new arrival has pitched a very tall pole with a flag attached which is flapping merrily in the wind. Trouble is, I just know I’m gong to be able to hear it flapping in the night and am looking forward to lying awake listening to it.
I can also hear loud music coming from vans on either side of me but as it’s only 7pm I suppose I’m expected to be grateful for the sharing! I wouldn’t mind if they were playing the same tunes but the differing styles turns into a cacophony when you’re sitting between them.
The site is much larger than we would normally use - CL’s are more to our liking but we thought we would give this one a try due to it’s location.
I’m wondering if caravanning is seeing an influx of ex-festival goers who now have families but can’t let go of the need for noise?
Back to CL’s and peace and quiet for us methinks!

Yes, noisy neighbours are too often a problem on sites.
At least if they’ve got flags or other toys (bunting, flashing lights as they often do), it’s a bit like sheep & goats, you can spot them and pitch elsewhere. That said, they have a habit of appearing next to you when you come back from a day out.

If its a club site I am sure there must be rules for the maximum size of erect poles and nighttime noises due to erect poles. Ask the warden.
Personally don't get it, poles, flags, fairy lights, picket fencing, candles, plastic windmills, dreamcatcher things, and wind chimes.
Do you people not have enough useful stuff to use up your generous user weight allowance!

A small projector with 84" screen and connection to a sound bar that we can sit on the pitch and watch movies outside
We have a pole with lights too, that goes off at 22:00.

Watching on a small screen inside lacks the ethos of the outdoor life that is camping. With the demise of drive in cinemas, the new technology facilitates a hark back to the days of youth and watching movies outdoors.
seems a great way to enjoy staycations, the new norm, in place of risking catching a virus abroad
imagine hosting a screening for youngsters where they can pull up a chair and be enthralled watching a classic movie whilst their parents have some me time.
what camping is all about

I do camping & I’ve shared sites with folk who enjoy their stay & those who hide away in their homes on wheels, it’s all good👍🏻😊. It’s just a mindset & sharing👍🏻

Just think KS could start his own movie business. Hire out seats around the pitch, socially distanced of course. Maybe run a side line in Kia-Ora orange juice and peanuts or sell lottery tickets for fellow devotees to choose the next film.

As I posted at the time, we had an invitation to a musical evening courtesy of a lovely Fair Ground Organ -- bring your own seat & supper !! T'was truly stupendous and a fine way of remembering a lovely minimalist site, ## Da Dah ##!!
