When is a van a motorhome (or tent an awning)

On recent visits to club sites I see an increasing number of transit type vans with no cooking, sleeping, or toilet facilities park up and pitch a tent posing as an awning at the side of the van.

The accommodation is solely in the tent/awning with the van as purely transport.

I am on Merrose farm at the moment and overlooking such an “outfit”

Has anyone else observed similar? (And any views.)

Some club sites take tents and Merrose Farm is one of them.

I don’t think it matters whether the transport is a car, motorbike or van.

If you have concerns, discuss them with the warden.👍🏻

Yes, but can’t say I’ve seen it much on CMC sites. That said, I haven’t been on any CMC sites this year (yet).  It’s very common at festivals, even though organisers usually insist that campervans must be properly adapted for sleeping/cooking etc. I’m not sure what I think about it really, but at least it’s better than sleeping in estate cars which I’ve seen on some sites (not CMC).

Agree if the tents are on tent pitches but I am talking about “tents” on caravan/motorhome pitches.

The warden must be OK with the arrangement. Perhaps the tenter has been directed there.

I repeat, it’s best to raise your concerns with the warden as we can only speculate.

Fair point..in that case I think they should be on camping pitches.

Who knows if the warden is OK with it, unless he/she checks the inside of everybody’s van and/or has the appetite for an argument about it.

Oh no, how awful for you.

Just say hello and talk nice to the tent people.

You never know they be nice people just wanting to enjoy a bit of fresh air and R&R.

Why you think I, or anybody else, has the right to comment on what "outfit" another club member may have is beyond me.

I seem to recall from a similar thread from some time ago is that the LV, van, caravan, MH... has to have somewhere for persons to sleep, some form of bed to lie down on, which can be as rudimentary as you like but has to be there. So you can't park a car on a pitch and say that is your LV as a car can't be classed as a LV, while a van can I assume.

And of course you don't have to sleep on this 'bed' (you can sleep in the awning) but it has to be there.

And tents are allowed on your pitch assuming an LV is there.

Personally I don't have ant problem with what you are describing, for me behaviour is more more important from your neighbours than their sleeping arrangements

I've seen many LWB Land Rovers with tents on the roof rack and ladders for access  --  I'm not going to argue for or against their right to be on C&MC sites, especially since there were a couple of tents on the Club stand at NEC this February !!
