Tyre help please - No Aspect Ratio

Hi All,

First post!...

We had a motor mover fitted on our 2005 Compass Mendip Classic this week that we purchased earlier in 2020.  The chap fitting it let me know that there were splits on the inside of our wheel and they should be changed... worth knowing before the family spends a few hours on the hard shoulder of the motorway instead..

The caravan is fitted with 2 Transporter Tyres they are rated 175 R 14C 99/98 R8  (as per pic).

There is no aspect ratio on these tyres so it is hard to know if car tyres on the likes of Black Circles are fit for purpose...  Should i be looking for a specific aspect ratio or will any number do?

Any help appreciated!

Ben

If no aspect ratio shown then they are 80% ratio. If you fit another ratio you'll just have to move your mover a little closer in. 👍

    Hi, Ben

as a motorcaravanner I really cannot say what you need for a caravan, but I'd be inclined to look around for a website for the relevant owners or makers -- they normally have three bucketsful more information than you need but  careful questioning should give you the answers.

EDIT -- Cross posted with E/D

175/80 R14 with load rating of 98/99, make sure the load rating is no less than 98, most car tyres are 88 for this size.

Hi Ben , yes most of the older tyres of that size would have been marked without the aspect ratio but most current brand tyres (and many manufacturers have stopped producing that size because demand for that size has diminished greatly over the years,) are now marked with the 80 aspect ratio. The 98/99 load rating denotes them as an 8ply C tyre which are not only suitable for Caravan but essential.Dont fit a tyre with a lower ratio. Also never run tyres that are older than 7yrs because of internal degradation which sometimes is not visible. You are not far from us so if you like give me a call and I will give you a price .07802661334.

    best regards
