Toilet Chemicals Longevity
Hi
Due to the way I use my vehicle I tend not to use the Thetford much. I am also new to the whole experience.
This means the, currently, the Thetford has been setup but literally not used for a couple of months.
Do the chemics stay use able on this basis just like if they were in the bottle or should be refreshing on a cycle in case it needs to be used?
Tried to find an answer but all the answers are assuming it's being used in terms of replacing chemicals.

Over the years we have regularly left the toilet with blue elsan in it after emptying it at our " last site of the year ".. It can be 2 or 3 months, and this year 8 months before we used it again with no obvious problem, so I wouldn't worry.

I have always emptied ours and tend only to set it up as we leave for a trip. It would save scale building up if emptied.

Ditto, always leave fresh chemicals in cassette when not in use. That said, formaldehyde is biodegradable so maybe does lose efficiency over time?

We use the sachets as we prefer not to mess about measuring stuff out which usually ends up staining everything blue.
So you could buy some sachets and just drop one down the opening to keep the concentration strength up if you're that worried but I suspect it would be fine.

what is the life span of toilet chemicals left in the original bottle

Obviously, depending on how many trips out we do, the size of the bottle of blue that we buy usually lasts us all year. We have, on occasion, had some left and used it the following Spring and never had any issues with its effectiveness.
I'm not a messy person so I don't have a problem in pouring it into the cassette from outside the van but I don't faff about measuring it; just a good glug and add about a litre of water.

Good question....so I asked Prof Google and it seems not. Now nitrate based biocide chemicals. Every day is a school day!

Hope they don't expire. I've git some "blue" that must be at least two years old as I use very little since swapping to LidL's Formil bio pods.

Not sure it will have a big impact on receding polar ice caps, but it’s a start 😉
