Long caravan - looking for pitches

I somehow feel that this is a joke but a guy from Scotland has posted 'elsewhere' that he's having difficulty finding sites that will accept him or where he can actually get through the gates with this.  smile

Judging by the image, I doubt very much that it's legal in the UK; got to be more than 7 metres surely.

Didn't, or doesn't, Southport site have a couple of pitches for outsize units?

I seem to recall a particularly long US type RV parked on the pitches right near the exit barrier.

I presume he'll have to bring it across the Atlantic first, judging by the photo site? wink

Commons Wood, Welwyn Garden City take a few long 5th wheels / extra long American Motor Homes but you will need to pre-book as every time I've been they have been occupied.

    Evening

So, if we're talking club sites, there will be a few that could take an outfit of that size (not a lot) , obviously with a prior phone conversation. The outfit in the picture is a library photo of a "travel trailer" or American caravan. To legally tow anything in the UK the body length (not including hitch) is 7 meters. Anything over that you are in the realms of a hgv license and a suitable tow truck which is over plated at over 3.5 tonnes.

I have an American fifth wheel trailer which is 11.5 meters long and have an American pick up truck (Ford F350) to tow it. At present I don't have a class 1 license to drive it but I have a friend that does.

Basically if you decide to have an outfit of that size you must be prepared and plan well ahead. It's easily doable where I have mine in Spain but over here could prove a tall order.

Southport site has changed since the opening of the newer section and where extra large vehicles used to be able to park that's now the visitors' car park.

Kinlochewe could, perhaps --  but that depends

A )  the ability to get the beastie up there  also

B )  on it being open of course !

I'd be inclined to chat to the Site Manager { Warden  wink }  at Thetford Club Site too -- they used to have an 'artic sized ' towing unit as well as being very nice friendly folk !!

Brighton have at least five pitches that are 14 metres in size which are usually all taken for the winter with people living on site.

Well, on the final day of "Summer 2020", according to the Met Office anyway,  somebody could get a mile or two hundred in trying 'em all out for size any way !! cool wink
