Gas Bottle Saga
We visited site on 14th July with newly acquired motorhome, could not access electrics on van, & found new gas bottle too big so tried to swap for a smaller size, but told this was not possible. Now left with no power, I tried again the next morning but was assured that I could not exchange my more expensive bottle for the smaller one.I confess to being annoyed, and returned to the van where I prayed for the staff, cooled down & returned again to the office to apologise when a Carl Mitchell was behind the counter. He voluntarily came to the van, tested our electrics, hit some magic button & hey presto we had power, thanks to him.On leaving the site I walked across the road, not seeing the barrier which came down on my head, and lead to my spending 5 hours in A&E after arriving home.So, Mr. Mitchell saved our holiday but would suggest that some flexibility about the gas bottles could surely be implemented.

Unfortunately the Club wardens are governed by the rules imposed on them by Calor Gas who only allow a very limited number of cylinders to be swapped for each other and they are usually of the same size.

As far as I am aware the groups that you can exchange within changed in recent years.
No idea what bottles the OP has.

Not to mention the warning signs about not walking under the raised barrier 🤕

Surely it is common sense and personal responsibility not to walk under a raised barrier, whether or not one has seen a warning sign. Likewise, it is possible to see if a barrier is in the raised position.
I find the whole story incredible.
There was another incredible tale a few days ago in the UK Sites and Touring section about someone not being able to buy gas or have anything to eat at Lady Margaret's Park because his gas bottle was empty and he didn't have a spare. He even claimed that he wanted a refund because owing to this he had to leave.
It seems that some people wish to blame other people if they make a mistake or fail to act responsibly. Alternatively, such stories as the one referred to above may simply be that - stories to see what reactions people make.
On a positive note McWalter, if you have a problem on site with your van by all means ask someone if they have any suggestions. Many people are usually willing to help if they can. Most of us have made mistakes, been unsure or found something difficult with a new van or if we are new to camping in whatever form.

Regarding OP, I thought I was reading a script for Fawlty Towers, or Hi De Hi to be honest..............😂 Maybe it’s a wind up........But folks do the strangest of things.......😲

Indeed TDA. Strange things can happen...we were on a CAMC last year and a new motorhome owner parked alongside us. They thought they had to generate their own electricity so they brought a generator with them...thankfully as twilight descended the site managers noticed the noise, pointed out the EHU and how to use it, then lent the owners a cable....!
So who knows, the truth can be stranger than fiction.

We offered to help a couple in a hired MH a couple of years ago on a Cl, who seemed to be struggling with one or two things, but they said they were fine, so we left them to it.
I’ve related the tale before about the newby caravan owners who kept tripping the electrics on another CL. You name it, they had it turned on and on full power. No gas bottle either......😕

It can be. With one working eye I probably have around 2 thirds of your field of view.
I probably told the tale before but .... about 4 or 5 years ago I guess I had two guys working here doing soffit add fascia cladding. I asked the two chaps if they wanted a round of bacon butties. I decided to do A round and a half for them and a round for me.I put 16 rashers of thick sliced bacon on the grill. When I came to dish up I realised that I was short of a decent fill and so quickly whipped up four eggs with plenty of pepper and lightly toasted the bread whilst I fried of the eggs. Sandwiches were fine but afterwards when cleaning up I found that on the bottom right of the grill there were still several rashers on the lower right - my blind side.
