roughlywhat sort of price should I be looking at for insurance . Last year my 1st as an owner I paid £350 for my Swift 644 with club . Just did a quote with Camping and caravan club and got 2 qoutes £881 and a jaw dropping £2215 . Have not had my renewal through from club yet , but wondering if I filled all details in correct last year to get to £350

Maybe tell us the value. Is the cover new for old?

Use a few comparison sites such as Go Compare, then get quotes from other insurance companies such as Comfort  and Safeguard - then match them with your Club renewal when it comes. But your Club insurance will not include breakdown cover - some of the others will. So be sure to compare like with like.

Both my motorhomes have been insure via the Club for what seem reasonable premiums. Have you tried Comfort Insurance which is favoured by many motorhomers as it does include breakdown cover.

With our first MH we had cover with Saga, both the clubs insurances were way more expensive.

Having just recently bought another MH we are once again with Saga, again both clubs way more expensive. We have tried some of the other companies mentioned but for us Saga gives the best cover as it allows 365 days European cover and we had no problem getting a Green card last year when there was all that hype about needing one. Breakdown cover is also available through them as well if required.

Our club renewal has just come through at £268 (2007 Bessacarr E530) We also have Auto-aid breakdown at £60 which covers both our motorhome and car for both of us driving in the UK.  Auto aid cover motorhomes up to 3.5tonnes gross weight.

We use Comfort. It really was the only one we could. As we were keeping both our  cars we couldn't carry the No claims over without messing about with the insurance on them. Comfort does not use / award NCD discount, however the premiums were very reasonable and in the first year I had the breakdown, which  included Europe. The club wanted in excess of £1200 (with out no claims record) and Comfort came in at less than half that with the breakdown add on.

I cancelled that in the second year as we still needed to cover our cars, so altered our Mayday to personal cover. I also decided I preferred the level of cover afforded by Red Pennant when we went abroad.

We use Comfort. Last year it was £430 for 4000 mileages and included breakdown cover.  Due for renewal in 3 weeks.

Our Saga cover for the MH was around £300, 6000 mls and full 365 days European cover. As far as we are aware you can't use your car NCD when insuring a MH, that's what we found out when searching around for cover, at that time 1 of us didn't have a car so we could have used the NCD if it had been allowed.

The no claims element concerned me we first changed to a motorhome but the Club policy we had seemed to offer a discounted price as though you did have the no claims bonus. What you didn't get was the ability to select protected no claims.

Steve I was shocked at the £1200 you mentioned. My current insurance with the Club is £400 on a brand new motorhome, although I imagine not as expensive as yours.

They said it was that much because they couldn't give us any no claims discount. If I had sold my car they would have given me credit for it. Even at that amount they wanted the tracker and alarm fitted the same as Comfort. I just checked and comfort was £574 the first year with European breakdown and £474 this year without it and a few less miles,    although plenty for our needs. I had no idea how much we would use it the first year so overestimated.

Insurance companies make the rules to suit themselves. They won't extend NCD to 2nd vehicles even when the common denominator is the driver. Having said that, they will often acknowledge a driving history & give you some kind of discount on other vehicles owned.
