Site check in process
As we were unable to book several C&MC sites this year due to lack of availability we opted to use privately run sites and some run by the Camping and Caravan Club.
We did manage to use Troutbeck and Berwick Sites (good locations), but I have to say the check in process and speed could be improved. Other sites have the site mangers greet you at the barrier whilst you remain in your vehicle. Payment for the stay is taken just prior to arrival using the card made to make the booking, so there is no need to complete payment on arrival, the site managers then escort you to your pitch. We found this to be a much speedier and safer process compared to the C&MC's approach. Hopefully the club can also adopt this approach.
Moderator Edit:
We already have a thread discussing caravan sites reopening and safety measures feedback to I'll lock this one and invite you to check the original thread.
Many Thanks.

well I'm glad you find it to your liking and I've suggested prior payment before on the morning of arrival as an option so with you on that one.
However I completely don't like the idea of being told where to pitch and being escorted to it. I far prefer choose one's own, then it's to my benefit and not the site manager's.

I have only once been told where to pitch with C&CC. I have, however, often been shown a selection of available HS pitches ( which we always book ) and asked which one I preferred, even this year, in-fact just a few weeks ago. The been told where to pitch thing, in my experience of 15 years with the C&CC, seldom actually happens, only when the site is full to capacity.
I also liked the pay in advance on line procedure removing the need for everyone to go into reception ( twice ) as with this club.

Your experience of being shown to a choice of pitches on C&CC sites mirrors mine, J2. Only in exceptional circumstances is a particular pitch allocated and that can happen with CAMC as well on occasion.
To the OP I say that whatever arrangement is in place at any site currently is as a result of risk assessment and planning what is right for that particular site. It may be temporary and could be entirely different next year. There really isn’t a 'one size fits all' arrangement at present.

Personally I don't WANT to pay deposits, but then I don't mind paying deposits if required. It's not a big deal for me as I'm going anyway, plus it spreads the cost out a bit. The big advantage whilst we have the current covid situation is that you don't have to go into reception, use the key pad to pay, then return to collect rubber bands etc washing hands each time etc.
