Would be helpful to hear from anyone out and about in Northumberland at the moment. Interested in how busy local towns, heritage sites, Hadrians Wall area, coastal area is at the moment?

We are hoping to head off up there early September, and it would be good to get a bit of an idea just how “busy” it seems, have folks eaten out, any particular tourist type attractions still not open yet? Are the beaches busy?

Not interested in Club Sites, but some feedback on any small private Sites, CLs or CS Sites would be good. We intend using our own facilities even on any sites that have loos and showers, happy on grass pitches if the ground is ok, and just a small MH.

Appreciate that things like the weather and children going back to school will alter in next couple of weeks, but any information from folks out there at the moment would be good.

Thank you.😁

I know you like Alnwick, tda, and there's a small commercial site, without toilet/shower, but has EHU and all H/S, within walking distance of the town, Greenfields Moor. We're booked in for early November.

Thanks Nellie, hadn’t found that one👍 I am hoping we might be able to do one or two booked visits to NT places, mainly gardens. Hoping to spend most of our time just walking, cycling. Be great if we could get a beach swim in as well. Keeping a wary eye on the weather😂

We will be at Brandon Ford Cl from 23rd September for three weeks other than one night when we have to move onto the club site as Brandon Ford are fully booked. We are hoping to do the same things as you except for the swim but we like walking on the beaches. Low Hedgeley site just across the A697 is a small site that used to be a CL and is very good. We have also stayed at Chillingham Barns CL which is a huge field with wonderful views, flat and well cut when we were there but that was six years ago,

We'll be up there around the same time, but we're on a club site and will be meeting up with son and family (off the site as no visitors allowed.) Son says the area has been busy and the north sea has warmed up a bit this year due to all the good weather, (but they all wear wet suits.wink)

Just noticed Doxford Farm Camping, a small site with pods etc. close to the coast and Alnwick

Sounding good so far. We have Low Hedgeley on our radar thanks. We shall possibly spend a couple of nights getting up to Border, perhaps stop first Rothbury area if we get a good run up, bit further South if we don’t. Not even sure of our route yet, might be weather dependent.

We shall be using half wet suits for swimming this year, short sleeve, short leg type, but water should be a bit warmer now hopefully. Only definite shops we are likely to visit are ice cream parlour in Wooler, ice cream parlour in Amble, and ice cream parlour in Eyemouth!😋 All we want to do really is get MH down to above dunes in certain beach areas, the less busy ones, and spend day by the sea. Don’t even care if it’s raining to be honest.....😁

We’re going to Brandon Ford on 10th October, would have liked a bit earlier but they couldn’t do the 9th and we couldn’t be bothered to move (we are lazy!) anyway only a few days difference.  Hope to say a ‘socially distanced’ hello if you’re still there.  We love Northumberland, especially the quiet and scenic coastline.  As far as places to go tda (don’t know if you are familiar with Northumberland), NT Wallington is very good, we enjoy sitting in the bird hide in the woods, not sure if the house is open though.  NT Cragside of course, but personally we've done that so many times, but it’s a good day if you haven’t been before, again IF it’s open this year.  Bamburgh Castle is a good visit too.  My niece lives in Berwick and it’s been ‘rammed’ apparently (her words) hopefully September might start to quieten down a bit!??

Hi Heddlo, and thanks for the invite for a meet up😁 It would have been very nice, even just to say a quick hello, but we are hoping to be up there early September this time. We do know most of it very well, but we usually find a new surprise we haven’t seen before! We have done the big visits like Bamburgh, Cragside a few times, and I have just found that the gardens at Wallington are open, so we might revisit here, as the Walled Garden is simply lovely. Lindisfarne Castle, unsurprisingly is closed, but we have been before. We usually pop into Berwick, but won’t go into town. Might book to look around the Barracks, and we usually walk the Walls. Dunstanburgh, Warkworth and Edlingham Castles are all open (first two need timed tickets), and we shall probably do the battlefield walk again at Flodden. If we can get a pitch on our chosen Borders site, then Cocklawburn and Cheswick Beaches will be our main haunt for some chill out time and a bit of beach combing and walking. Hopefully a swim as well🥶 We are taking our bikes, OH has done a lot of cycling in this area, so no doubt my bike battery will need to be fully charged😂

Thanks for the update re Berwick. We have our fingers crossed all goes well with schools returning, so that might thin things out a little!🤞

We leave on the 14th so see you there. We have spent many weeks in Northumberland as it is one of our favourite places. We seem to alternate with one year there and next year Cornwall. We have to move off on 3rd October but I am hoping that will be a chance to use the laundry at River Breamish as we will have been away three weeks by then.

Thanks heddlo😁. We love ice cream. Milk Bar in Wooler, Spurelli’s in Amble, Giacometti’s in Eyemouth. The last has a lovely fish and chip restaurant as well. Should all be open, we visit Northumberland in the Winter as well

Hi thing's are busy but nothing like elsewhere, our friends have just returned from Beadnell and report no problems, we live in land and local Rothbury, Bellingham Hexham area all ok.

Sorry cannot say the same for the weather over the last few days, but again nothing like down south have been suffering, but the sun is out as I post this. 😎

Thank you reddog, Rothbury area would be our first stop, and if it’s quiet, we would probably have a little stroll. Can’t miss the ironmongers there, they sell stuff you never realised you needed😁 We overnighted in a pub there last year, lovely place.

We are on weather watch now, all plans could change, but fingers crossed🤞
