When we caravanned we used an Al-Ko underslung carrier. It did the job but access was not always easy and you have to keep them well greased otherwise they could jam up you at an inopportune moment!

I too have the Al-Ko underslung carrier on my Bailey  The only thing in it's favour is that it holds the spare wheel out of the way.  But it is a very awkward piece of kit to  use, it is heavy and you need quite a bit of space to pull it out, I would say 2 mtrs.  I have had to use it once only and luckily that was on a warm dry day.

Many of us consider the underslung carriers to be the work of the devil.

We used to carry the spare in the back of the car.

Mine's under the van but wouldn't attemp to get at it as that's why I pay for breakdown service. Souldn't they be checked and greased at every service.

Yes they should be checked and greased at every service, my Mobile Man does on my caravan service.  No room in my boot for spare wheel as I put the awning there; it is big and HEAVY anyway.
