You may to back track but you did actually write:

When they dreamt up the scheme to encourage trade they probably hadn't reckoned on the FCO directing trade their way

What is is this trade you are referring to if not people using club sites then?

If as we are led to believe, the Club have had a new membership leap of some three thousand in the last three months, then couple this with the fact that most, (but not all) UK residents have opted for a holiday in this country and you sort of understand why it’s going to be difficult to get that last minute Club Site pitch at certain Sites.

I doubt that those who normally tour overseas are barking mad enough to consider paying the non member prices.

Oh really EuroRT...laughing I bet it's not busy on the Cliffs of Moher over in Eire either, not exactly safe family beaches in view.

Just in case anyone is tempted to take the inflatables down to The Strangles...read the tourist LINKundecided

It has been busy in the SW, no disputes over that and sites look busy into September.

I see the opposition have opened a few more sites.

I think both clubs will have lost a large amount of income from their foreign travel enterprises but at least people are travelling in the uk.

I looked a couple of weeks ago to see if there was any options to change our booking at a site in Yorkshire (that I booked a few months ago) in early September to somewhere further south, a bit nearer home, but there was nothing available.   Sticking with our original plan.

Cornwall is heaving usually all through late July, all August normally, so the tourist magnet towns like Newquay, Perranporth, St Ives, St Mawes, etc......must be dreadfully crowded this year. There will still be some quiet beach spots for those prepared to walk to them, and who know the hidden gems quite well. Unlikely to be life guarded though, and given all the stuff some folks carry into a beach, you’d need to hire a Sherpa to get to them! And of course, there are the ones that don’t understand that the beaches disappear at high tide!😂

plenty of places on commercial sites, i got 1 in Devon for 1 month booking without problem, anything after 31st Aug seems to be ok if you shop around.

Club seems to have pitches available mid week in some locations then nothing Friday thru Monday. dont use club sites much but was surprised to receive the below when having a look

We are currently experiencing high demand for UK site bookings. You are now in a queue. When you access the website you will have 10 minutes to complete your booking. Thank you for your patience.

We drove past Watergate Bay yesterday and I wish I 'd stopped to take a picture. All the nearby car parks were rammed full and on the beach itself there were masses of folk within a short walk of the hotel, car parks and lifeguard station. Walk about 100 yards beyond that and you have over a mile of golden sand with barely a soul to  be seen! wink

We've only ventured to drive through Perranporth once this week and although it is very busy, it's probably no worse than usual in August. The touring site just up the road from us decided not to open this year and the one we used to stay on for family holidays just down the road has closed. Our site has a few tourers but they have not opened the toilet/shower blocks so that has deterred many. We don't do Newquay at this time of year! laughing

We walked across Penhale Dunes to the lost church this morning (once the rain had stopped!) and had it pretty much all to ourselves. smile

This is our favourite swimming beach. It’s a half mile level stroll from nearest parking. My Mum and Dad did this in their 80’s, you are looking at St Ives in the distance. You wouldn’t see many more folks in a normal August to be honest. A lovely place.....😁

Most tourists won’t walk more than 1/2 mile, less if a steep hill is involved. Lack of car parking on the doorstep is another non-no. You only get to meet the fit & the smug ones who’ve ventured beyond those obstacles to reap the benefits.

That would be the ones who shun the busy tourist areas and seek out the quiet places where they're less likely to inadvertently spread the virus to the locals I assume - just the sort I thought you'd welcome, Bill. Happy to be called fit and smug in that case! 👍

Does a half mile walk constitute “fit”? Upright and ambulant I grant you, but fit? 🤔 Up and down Lantic Bay near Fowey was our fit. I think we would struggle doing that more than once a week nowadays😱 It got your cruciate ligaments going down, and your heart rate climbing up. But it was worth it..........

Other beaches are available throughout the UK. wink

I presume booking availability will be easing off by the end of the month. We have had a lot of good breaks in October. smile

My mistake WTG, I misread details in the Sept. C&CC Magazine and it was facilities reopening at five club sites. Did you see that THS will be available too? Giving a bit more choice.

Does pay to keep checking the availability of any site you are interested in. Less than a week ago I booked three days on a Norfolk site but really wanted four. Went back into site availability today and I have been able to get another day but also able to change to the days I really wanted.
