It's not clear from your post whether your problem is actually getting into the booking system or just that all sites you are trying to book are full. If the latter then it's quite likely caused by so many more people purchasing caravans and staying in the UK this year.

Why do people think that it will be non members? I suspect very few non members use Club sites as they have to pay £12 a night extra! The problem is that there are so many more members trying to book because they can't go abroad because of restrictions this year .

The bookings section on the web site is buffering and it can take a few minutes to find out if sites have vacancies. This must be adding to the problems of finding pitches on busy sites. Apparently in the SW all camp sites are popular this summer no doubt September will be too.

It's a combination of things.
1. There are thousands of new Caravan and Motorhome owners due to having to stay in the UK. Many of them will be new CAMC members
2. Lots of members were unable to take their holidays in the first half of the year so are making up for lost time.
3. September is when the Grey haired folk come out of hibernation and it can be busy even in "normal" years.
4. The CAMC website is poor and cannot cope with the demand and is prone to throw a wobbly.
Persevere or use CLs or Independent sites. We have 3 weeks booked in September, on 3 CLs and 2 Independent sites.

Come on Foxy you are from Devon. You must have holiday makers all around you. We all know what it's like in the Silly Season but this year it's packed. The Police and the Ambulance service are reporting that they can't cope. Even the checkout lady in Tesco said how many holidaymakers were in there today. It isn't likely to change that much in September, apart from the age of the visitor. Most of the people who normally go abroad are holidaying in the UK. Here we could have done with the Governments half price meal deal in October because everywhere is full anyway now.

Could it be that you are just looking at the first set of results for a site, usually serviced pitches, and not continuing down the page to the standard pitches, with and without awnings?

I agree with WN about people having stays in the UK, not only caravan holidays, from what I saw walking through Ambleside every single B&B and hotel had the no vacancies sign up. When we went in return our keys and the staff said all their proprieties were in use and they had never had this before in August.

What's more, September is only a couple of weeks away so I’m not surprised if sites are near fully booked at this stage.

I have heard this about availability in several posts now. Just as an exercise I have looked at eight popular sites in different areas, half member only, half non members and it is right that September is proving difficult but there are spaces. Full weeks are being hampered by the weekends being booked up so really it can't all be blamed on the new buzz word, 'Staycation'. Booking on line has been problematic by the booking system not being robust enough. My little exercise took quite a while at this time of night.
You could try on line help and just ask them what sites have availability for your dates.
Incidentally there is lots of space for full weeks in October

Morning
Basically, yes it is that busy in September. We are fully booked apart from the odd day for all of September.

You have to widen your search . I just looked at a couple of top quality independent sites in Cornwall - and yes they have September vacancies.

i booked a quality site in Devon for 1 month only last week, not sure if we will stay the whole month depends on the weather, and how flexible the site will be in allowing us to hold some weeks in credit until maybe next year, we have done this before, but times are different now.

Busy in Cornwall?
My local beach at around 6pm yesterday. They must be all sat in the awning!

To comment on Foxy's OP. I would have thought it unlikely that the sites in September are full on non-members. At £10 a night more expensive for a non-member, if it were me, I'd be joining the Club. Five nights and you've got your membership fee back.... 🙂
I suspect that people are just taking every opportunity to get away.... At the moment, there is a quick turn over of pitch use here at Hunter's Moon and at Putts Corner a few days ago. As soon as one pitch becomes vacant, someone else arrives on it! The same thing has also happened on the non-club sites we have been on this summer.
I think everyone is needing to be very flexible. If the site or area you want to go to is booked, one has to be prepared to go somewhere else. Speaking to one of the wardens, she said that Black Horse Farm, near Folkestone, is fairly quiet. The site is often used by those on the way to or from Europe and this year, cross channel tourist traffic is quiet!!!

Although the sky looks blue in your pic, yesterday was overcast and a bit chilly for beaching.
Not busy? You've obviously not seen the cars parked here, there and everywhere for Spit Beach😄

Not sure what you're trying to say, JK was referring to September not yesterday?
Anyway showing a particular beach on a particular day proves nothing about how busy Cornwall is, especially at 6pm.

I can confirm that sites are VERY busy for Sep. I have just spent 4 hours finding two sites in UK for first 3 weeks in Sep following having to cancel our trip to Europe. The situation seems to be easing the last week in Sep in most places though. So its take the sun canopy off the caravan and remember to take the awning (and wellies!)

I put up a reply yesterday which mentioned 4 possible reasons for the problem encountered by the OP.
I am absolutely disgusted that the CAMC has removed that post. The 4 reasons included a) more leisure vehicles sold as more people staying in UK b) holiday period condensed due to virus c) more retired folk holiday in September and d) CAMC website known to have problems with workload.
The club has censored that post!!!
I shall be writing to Rowena expressing my disgust. If this is the way the club intends to go then I will consider leaving this forum.
This post probably won't last long either.

I know it wasn't. I too have written many a time. I need no fingers to count the replies on.
Don’t quit, it’s probably what they want. The forum needs posters like you.

WN, you said what I would have also said...and now having just managed to book a few days in September I had to fit the booking in between some days on a site that's rarely full at that time of year, but it is this time round!
I think CAMC must take some criticism for not having a fully functioningg web site and booking system, it doesn't make it a good experience for users.
Out of interest what's happened to the OP Foxy54, any news of a successful booking?

I have too, and yes please don't quit.

it,s just like panic buying bog roll

Don't you go leaving, please. We've lost too many good posters already.
Perhaps it's the mods that need to restrain their impulses to remove posts that they deem unsuitable, and a word or two from Ro may just be what's needed.
