Stonehaven site flooded and pumped out in 6 hours
It's really what you pay your subs for isn't it?
The site flooded at 5 am with the massive deluge shown on TV today..so were we left to fend for ourselves in a muddy mess...no
Wardens got out of bed, helped people move to higher ground, helped people leave via the now flooded barriers, retrieved floating belongings and switched on big pumps and drained the site dry by teatime.
Everyone who was due to leave was visited and reassured, told to stay put at no cost till ready to move out
And then they cleaned all the toilet block, emptied the bins and cleared up our rubbish which had got swept away in the torrent
Just saw them sat down to dinner at 7 with a beer
We all have justifiable gripes about the Club but really we need to realise that these guys are on our side

Odd these pumps do not switch on automatically before it gets that bad.

Yes, well done the wardens.
How sad, though, that the same deluge might have caused a landslip possibly resulting in the train derailment and subsequent loss of life. A terrible thing.

They are being paid .. they don't do it for nothing.

Did you really expect to have to leave at 12? And if you couldn't leave by then due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, would you really think you'd have been expected to pay extra?

Well done to the wardens. I've said it before that it is the wardens who make the club what it is and so popular.
Yes people can say they are being paid but would staff coming to work at 8 or whatever have done as much? Perhaps but the wardens live on site, there is no one to pass on the responsibility, no where for them to hide. Pardon the pun but wardens and campers were in the same boat.
Ask yourself if such things were to happen, who do you want, staff on a shift pattern or wardens on site?
Again well done, I'm sure the people there appreciated your help.

Also, I really think it's such a shame that when a post like this that gives praise to wardens for doing a good job there are some who have to post negatively about it.
I understand some may think that about wardens and respect their viewpoint but can they just not post, or start a new one saying that rather than spoil thanks given from people actually being helped?

Well done the wardens but where was my negativity? I keep saying ... (but some get moderated) what would you have expected them to do whether it was 5am and they were in bed or 5 pm when they were already up & about? I'm sure other campers would have also pulled their weight & helped ...
Did you Corners ever get a pat on the back for doing what you were paid to do?

Surely if they are 'duty wardens' then they are on duty for 24 hours .. not just through the day
I'm sure most campers have the wit to think for themselves in a situations like this & don't need to be told what to do ..... there was nobody telly me what to do at my parents house in the Boxing Day floods 2015 when it was knee deep in the house!

All the OP was doing was praising the work of the wardens in exceptional circumstances. It really required no further comment. I certainly found your comments both negative and unnecessary. It wasn't that long ago that every Thursday we were clapping for the NHS. They were just doing their jobs but most people felt that they deserved extra praise for dealing with a very difficult situation. That is exactly what the OP has done, praised the wardens for doing the jobs they get paid for but in difficult circumstances. It doesn't warrant picking apart. Praise is important to everyone and it acts as a motivator. If you work in an environment without praise and thanks it must be a pretty soulless place.

We've stayed there a number of times and the only time we have been warned of a possible flooding is at the entrance to the site when there is a higher than normal tide .
It sounds like the weather was far worse than anything ever experienced in the area previously.
KJ I can confirm that it was worse than anything we have ever seen in all the years we have lived here, there is still flooding in some areas today.

Yes many many times, up to a few years ago usually on this day and a week today every year for 34 years.
Also regularly from bosses and instructors down the years and I've done the same to those I've been in charge of in various roles. I've always found it to be very effective in improving performance and/or getting the best from people.
Must be a sad work place when it doesn't happen?

Not at all what I was referring to regarding being a sad place, I was referring to where praise doesn't happen.
But you have proved the point? You (rightly) do your bit but nothing more. Perhaps if they prasied you more and made you feel valued you might act differently. I have no idea what goes on but just my thoughts.
Every manager, boss, teacher.. whatever wants their staff or students to do more, to achieve more, often you can't give extra money so another motivator must be found. Favours in return, thanks and praise... these are more effective than just do your job ... Do that and that's all you will get, in my view anyway.

What a very poor relationship there must be between managers and staff ,if that is how you see yourself,
Very sad
,I now understand why a lot of your posts are more negative in their content
Good to see that the majority of sites staff to members relationships is more possitive as the op,
