Will be arriving in Leverburgh for Harris as part of our island trip.   We have a site booked at Seilebost.   We can go the west road or the east road - the Golden Road.   Has anyone travelled the 'Golden Road' from Rodel to Tarbert with a motorhome?   We are not a large motorhome 7m and have done Route de Napoleon and Route des Cretes in France but just wondering if there was any experience of this road out there?   Grateful for any information.

I can’t really help, SD, as I can only recall travelling the western route which is hilly and twisty in parts. Tbh, in places, we were glad our van was only 6m but people travel successfully in larger units and tow caravans there.

Seilebost gives access to the beauty of Luskentyre which, to me, was the highlight of Harris.

The eastern road is unclassified and I’d be dubious of using it but you may turn up something if you search the Internet. If all else fails, you may need to wait until you’re there and seek local advice.

I have, last year. Its fine, in fact it is spectacular  We have a 6mt van. I would still prefer the Western road as the beaches are far better as is the availability of camping pitches.

    Hi Steve

Thanks for your positive reply.   We are travelling south to north so are wondering whether to take the golden road from Rodel to Tarbert then the west coast road from Tarbert to Seilebost.   Our motorhome is 7m so should be OK.   SD
