Nose Weight Question

Hi,

I’m new to caravanning (well, new as an adult. Used to go as a kid) and want to make sure I’m doing everything right.

I’m picking up my caravan at the weekend. It’s a very small, lightweight Freedom caravan so only 630kg unladen and 780kg maximum.

My car has a maximum nose weight of 75kg.

So, from my understanding, nose weight should be 5-7% of maximum weight. 5% of 780kg is 39kg and 7% is 54.6kg.

These seem rather low. Is it okay to go over the 7%? Bearing in mind the maximum for the car is 75kg, which is approximately 9.6%.

Any input would be appreciated!

You will probably find that the tow hitch on the caravan is tated at max 100kg if it is an alko ,it would not be a problem to put more weight to increase the nose weight ,and it could help with stability

So basically, go as close to the 75kg as I can?

With the car being a maximum of 75kg nose weight I presume it’s a big no-no to go over that amount.

Also, the towing car isn’t particularly big. Dacia Logan MCV with maximum towing weight of 1150kg

Yes, all the advice is to get as near the 75kg (car nose weight) as possible for maximum stability. Certainly a definite NO to exceed the car's limit.  Your outfit will be fine.
