Is this normal?

Not grotty at all, they are shown in the grass field at the end, where we ended up. From there position on the plan they will have good views. A fair few of the pitches had a reasonable slope on them though, unless they have done anything with them. On ours the back of the van was right down and we used all our stacker pads at the front. Apart from the distance to the facilities (which wouldn't bother us at the moment) it was nice. I think with our MH we would need the big ramps.

The so called eco pitches without EHU at Trewethett are the ones to go for, save money and get the best views! As SteveL says there are some potential issues with sloping and a bit of a hike to the showers assuming you don’t use your own. The pitches at the top of the field (turn tight from reception) border the SW coastal path and provide uninterrupted views over the Atlantic and cliffs. Bonus is you won’t get involved with any unseemly scramble for pitches with caravaners - not somewhere they tend to go. Good aire style camping at King Arthur’s Car Park, Fore Street, Tintagel.

Morning
Eco pitches 125 & 126 are fairly level and have the best views on the whole site.
The grass area for campers at the king arthurs arms car park is now closed off, you have to go with all the cars in the car park

Shame to hear about the closed grass area at King Arthur’s. However the car park has plenty of space and is quite motorhome friendly so wouldn’t rule it out as a convenient overnight spot. https://www.campercontact.com/en/united-kingdom/south-west-england/tintagel/9871/king-arthurs-car-park

Your favourite site is in the news today, the latest SW beach to be blighted by wild campers with all the associated problems of rubbish, human waste etc. Careful what you tread on!

If that is your view of the current situation you must be an awful lot younger than me.So good luck in the future when everybody is taking drugs, killing one another and completely ignoring the law

We must tour at quieter times than you then, or maybe we just use less popular sites.
The only one where I can remember a serious queue was Chatsworth, and even that was well managed and moved quickly.
We did once find 2 vans ahead of us at Lady Margarets Park, and 2 behind, when we arrived a few minutes early.
And Trewethett......when they were all away looking for pitches.

Forgot to mention tho' ~~ Don't park too far from the Office when at Trewethet Farm -- cos' its a long walk back up bank if the Mobile Chippy should call -- the F& C were much too nice to let them go cold !!
I'm pretty sure it was the same 'van that called at Godrevy, Hayle

We rarely encounter queues at sites in the UK, which could be because we don't arrive at 12.00 like some.
I think one of only a few times we did have to queue was at Stonehaven, our fault entirely as we arrived a bit early (not as early as some) we had misjudged how long it would take us.
The other time was with the C&CC at Beadnell Bay, Friday 13.00 about 4 vans in from of us. Office opened on time and one by one we were dealt with and shown which pitches were available. Took minutes for us to be 'processed' and on pitch.
We have had queues over there but usually only 1 or 2 vans, unless its a popular site like St Claires where a lot of Brits go.

I think if you're actually just about to have a holiday, queue or no queue life's not too bad. The OP mentioned queue jumping, it doesn't happen often and he who hesitates is lost regarding a busy site and making a quick decision about a pitch.

+1, I’ve rarely come across nasties around the world, personally & anecdotally from friends & family. Good people I’ve met many & continue to. Back in the day seemed way more lawless & dangerous(40+ yrs ago)👍🏻
