Anyone else on site here at sandringham today ?  Is the noises of jets passing over always that bad? They rumble away for 15 minutes at a time and start off at 9 am in the morning . They are still at it now . When i say rumble ....i mean you have to shout to be heard over the noise to someone in the same caravan as you 😩 Is this every day or did we just get a bad day ?

Lovely site otherwise, but poor internet and phone signal. I know some people like that . I can see why people like this site, its lovely ...but the jets are unreal . Is this a daily occurrence or just weekly ?

You've never stayed in the Lake District then?   smile  I'm just glad they're on our side and they're awesome to see.  I love them.

Soak it up, the noise of a F-35 or Typhoon jet on full chat is awesome!  People pay good money for that at air shows. If you’re lucky they might set the car alarms off as well!

You should have tried Mildenhall when it was a club site, Giza. That was a noise to behold.😀✈️

    Best avoid Edinburgh as well.

Check HMs itinery for a quiet staycool but it is not  every day and they do not work at w/ends (unless on war footing)surprised

ps they normally "play" over the Wash they are mostly from RAF Lakenheath USAF base laughing

It is not unusual to also get the big stuff out of RAF Mildenhall USAF base (now not closing)laughing

If aircraft are not your "thing" check out any sites that have airports /airbases flight paths abovewink

I wish we could see them . That would be okay . You cant see them . Just hear them and oh my goodness you hear them . 😱

Not understanding why they take 10 minutes to pass ...its just weird, like i say you cant see them .....but the rumble is horrendous

We live near the lakes , so its our go to sites up there . Never experienced anything like this though .

I think they must fly high and out of sight to minimise the noise ...but its not quite working 😆

They might be running the engines without taking off. There are plenty of RAF/USAF bases in the area.

We spend 3 weeks up at Edinburgh for the fringe every year . Never heard a plane there to be honest . Do they fly jets from there too ,or  is it just normal aircraft noise. Can cope with that , but this noise is crazy from the jets .

Not been to Mildenhall yet. Might avoid

Spotting them can be difficult, particularly in murky heatwave conditions. They can fly in excess of 1,300 mph at up to 40,000ft so are long gone from where the noise appears to be coming from.

You have no idea until you live here on the "Mach loop". Daily low level flying by both RAF and EU and American Jets. They are so low that you can look down on them flying through the passes. A bit disconcerting as you drive along and think your van has broken down or blown up. You get upwards of 8 in a formation. If you used to complain you got a message " Its the sound of freedom".

Edinburgh site is on the flight path to Edinburgh airport. You can wave to the pilots.

As I said, Mildenhall is no longer a club site. Thetford will let you hear tanks firing on occasion.

And then there used to be Bovington Tank Range😁 Every morning that lovely growling rumble......boom at the Dorchester Site. I got up a couple of mornings to go and watch, fascinating. Last time we heard such was a Wincanton.......not far from Salisbury Plain.

Try Pembrey for the jets and Freshwater East for tank firing on Castlemartin ranges. Not that it bothers us, we are used to low flying jets where we live, up and down the valley often below the tops of the mountains. The Chinook helicopters are the worst, throbbing away because they are so slow, takes for ages to pass.

We had that for 7 years when living in Germany (2 different postings)

The army quarter we had was near the tank road to the ranges, kids grew up with tanks rumbling day and night.

The night firing was great to especially when the Americans or Canadians we out on exercise. On the last night any ammo they had not used got set off. Bonfire night had nothing on it. Kids born and brought up there could sleep through anything, ours still can.smile

On another posting we had the Army Aircorp who kept us entertained with helicopters coming in and out all day long. Agree about the Chinooks but you have to love them, kids would run outside and wave to the pilots. The airfield was right next to the army primary school.

The Chinooks used to fly just over the top of the trees at Crossways early in the evenings.

At the Burford site you have got Brize Norton just down the road and that can be noisy at times.

We stopped for a lunch break near Thetford last year in a country park site on the edge of Brandon. Have to say we couldn't hear ourselves think due to engine testing at Lakenheath! I grew up near an aero engine site and testing can sound worse than anything and now we live near Yeovilton! wink

You get used to it but twice we've stayed near airports, Edinburgh and Newquay and I found those sites more irritating noise wise.

35 years ago we moved to Devon. Before that we used to live under the flight path to Heathrow, we became used to the planes and barely noticed them. On our first day here my young daughter and I came out of our village church as two jets came roaring over, the noise was truly unbelievable. My daughter stood shaking. We are just across the valley from what was Chivenor air base, we never got used to the daily noise of those jets. Some years later we were asked to sign a petition to keep the airbase there, we declined! Now it is peaceful. We also used to hear the sonic boom from Concorde when the pilots didn't slow down in time when coming over the land. We do miss that, noisy for a moment but it used to make us smile, another pilot who misjudged his speed.

OH didn't like the aircraft noise when at Ayr Craigie gardens, to be fair it was the transport planes at 3 am that annoyed him. Things like that don't bother me but someone stood outside the van having a chat or on the phone can make me see red.

Bourton on the water ,nee Notgrove, site is /was the one for low flying with all types of RAF helicopters and Fat Alberts in threes surprised

One of our friends (now retired) had numerous comments about how low the Fat Alberts were flying ,he would ckecck the TV airial on the old station masters house ,then advise it was still in one peice ,  they were higher than had beencool

Don't know what was going on yesterday but there were 6 USAF F15 Eagles low flying up through Thirlmere in three groups of twos at about 2 minute intervals. But interestingly much slower and lower than normal, that is compared to the RAF Hawks when they do the same route, I'd say about 250 knots. The noise was amazing.

Then a low flying Chinook helicopter did the same.

Good to hear there are some aircraft fans ☺️ . To be honest mine was a moaning post as I am really not into them . I'm just a girly girl who loves horses and stuff ....not much interest in cars ,bikes, planes etc. Will be really glad to leave the site tomorrow as the din from the planes , no internet and poor phone signal has driven me mad .

Not a criticism of the site though .....some people like being off grid and listening to horrendous noise ...just not me . When I said I wish I could see them , it's so I can shout 'go away to them ! ' 😆. Awful things . And such a shock to an otherwise peaceful site. Glad I visited but it's not for us again I don't think.

That said I can see that others like aircraft and it takes all sorts . And we are lucky to be out after coronavirus . Wardens were excellent and looked after us well. Worth a visit folks if anyone is thinking of it .

2 apologies ...one it's not really a moany post ....don't take me too seriously

And 2 apologies for not returning to the thread...we have had to drive 6 miles for any internet or phone connection and even now it's terrible.

    Take care folks 🙂

A few years ago, apparently a happy camper on the Buxton CMC site complained to the wardens about loud aircraft noise  overhead because aircraft were landing &  taking off from nearby Manchester airport and they tend at times to fly over the quarry site.

Needless to say, the wardens couldn't get the jets attention to fly a wider loop over the Cat &  Fiddle pub and everyone was stuck with unwanted racket till the airport shut for the day or all the planes crashed.

Life's like that sometimes, people aren't always happy even on holiday, perhaps a letter to the Queen would help, after all she lives there quite a bit now.

As the crow flies, we live approximately half a klic from the current home of 1RGR , so are well used to having Chinooks regularly flying low overhead .The upside is without the troops it's doubtful we would have such an excellent Nepalese restaurant less than 200metres from our front door .😁.
