Serviced pitches

You don't know that for sure TW. The facts are they are getting increasingly more expensive. You can find excellent commercial sites at cheaper prices especially if you don't want to put up an awning and don't have a dog. Sure you have to pay upfront but does that really matter if you have every intention of honouring a booking. I stayed on a full commercial site at the beginning of this month, hardstanding, 16Amp electric with a very well designed MHSP for £21p.n. Their serviced pitches were just £2 more per night.
The cost of serviced pitches on commercial sites can vary with season, some sites seem to encourage use by offering them cheaper in peak season, presumable as a potential relief to facility blocks at busier times?

We have no need of a service pitch and couldn't be bothered carting around the extra pipes that are required to 'plumb' into the water system.
It is nice when we have been on a pitch (usually abroad) that has these facilities but I wouldn't pay extra for it.
On non facility sites it might be a good thing to have but again not at £4 a night. We rarely stay anywhere for more than 4 or 5 days so fetching water isn't that much of a problem.

Obviously I don’t know that for sure, PD. Go back and check my wording.🙄

Well I like fully serviced pitches but wouldn’t pay the extra on Club sites which are already getting quite expensive. We use CLs and CS’s quite a lot and especially, this year when we are sticking to ones we know relatively close to home.
I have to admit to ‘cheating’! Because I know the layout of the sites - and the owners - I always carry a couple of tap splitters and my ‘bag’ of Colapz waste pipe. So - I can plumb into the water and, on some sites, can also reach a drain point - even though these sites aren’t fully serviced’ as such. One of my tap splitters is a 4-way - so anyone else can do the same as me if they want to / have the gear.

Not sure what increasingly more expensive means? That club sites are getting dearer each year or that their rate of increase is greater than you might wish for?
Either way is the site you talk about the same price as last year or before that?
Of course not. Most if not all sites put their prices up over the years or even each year.
But as always, if one thinks the increase or price is too much go cheaper like you suggest and take the risk of losing your deposit/money. Or use club sites where this won't happen.
I'm glad to hear you can be so absolutely certain you'll take up that booking. A lot of money to lose perhaps based on an intention?

I will always book a SP everyone. I'm on holiday and don't want to fetch and carry water or worry about it running out. They are popular with both caravans get MHs and I notice they get fully booked before other types of pitches.
But I don't think they should be all SP. However the option to upgrade every pitch would be good but again that would cost a lot of money that could be better used for new sites or other refurbishments.

Oooh! Get back in your kennel 😝

When I go on holiday in my caravan I try to be as idle as possible, so it’s a serviced pitch to save fetching water and a fixed bed to save moving cushions. If I could get the Wardens to bring me a cup of tea in bed I would. But all the ones I’ve asked didn’t seem to think it was part of their duties!

Just like we are on the CL we're staying on, and all for £14 pn!😁

Which may well be a blessing in the temperatures some are having Darn Sarfe, kjell!!😁
1 -
Not at all. Each to their own of course but there is a clue in the word holiday? You know being lazy? Enjoying things? Taking it easy? As SP are so popular
Why should I bother fetching water when it is literally on tap.
One could say the same about your choices? You know EHU? Inside toilet? Heating? If you need all that maybe you're in the wrong type of holiday?
One could say that but then it would be rude to question the way you want to holiday as apparently you wish to do of myself and others who like SP🙁

+1
Perhaps some feel that unless it's hard work, or not done their way, it's not a holiday 😁

Helps that some folks are prepared to pay over the odds rather than put the effort in - subsidises the rest of us who prefer a bit of the green stuff and exercise.

We are saving the joys of a serviced pitch until we feel we need one. Mind, hooking up to a tap and waste point in a Motorhome, particularly one that actually moves each day is a bit of an oxymoron🤔😂
Seriously, it’s good that Club Sites still offer a variety of pitches. Covers all needs and desires that way.😁

Moving water on and off the pitch on a bright warm summer day is quite a different matter from doing the same in the depth of a dark bitter slushy winter's day. But then some folk are a one-season camper.
On the affiliated site at Lover2Stay there is a chemical point on each pitch. It is physically the same as the water drain, and as far as I could determine through listening to the gurgling, the two of them just join up underground. So maybe all serviced pitches have a chemical disposal point, we just don't know it!

Applying simple financial, and business costing etc , it is more likely the other way, it is those that do not use super pitch, that subsides those that do
1 -
The demand for super pitch is a consequence of COVID19 , and probably a one or two season occurrence
No business should take a decision based on a one off .or short a term events , normality will return .2 -
Not quite sure how you conclude that? Most sites I have been on the serviced pitches have been full and if you check availability it is always the serviced pitches that get booked up which rather points to the reverse of what you suggest. There are a few motorhomes who may be using a serviced pitch to guarantee a hardstanding but even so they are prepared to pay extra to have that guarantee. I wonder if the Club will ever be brave enough to open a new site with all serviced pitches, they come pretty close at Cayton Village.

Hmmm...too simple for me. A few pay more for which the majority pay less and the majority is subsiding the few? 🤔

I dont think it is a case of being brave, for the die in the wood old timers on here who prefer to hump fresh water, and empty it from the other end let them use non serviced pitches on sites that have them, what the younger generation want, is a home from home approach, these are the people that may have 6 weeks annual holiday if you are lucky and just want to get away and enjoy themselves, so connecting up and then not having to worry about the taps running dry or somebody pointing a finger when your waste is pouring out of your wastemaster , is what they want and what they will pay for.
Unfortunately i dont fit into this younger generation category but serviced pitches for me everytime.

But the normality is that for all the time I've been using SP they have been in high demand and always get booked up before ordinary pitches. Each new site over the last few years has been built with SP, often refurbishments on current sites usually expand the number too.

The future might include a hot water supply, as well as cold, piped and connected directly to caravan kitchen taps, a new sort of caravan toilet which will connect to external sewage drains at each pitch, and a piped gas supply from a central bulk tank for caravans to connect up to on arrival. The new normal sort of camping.

I know that as.........a cottage!😂

"a new sort of caravan toilet which will connect to external sewage drains at each pitch"
for MHs its already on the market from Thetford and will be available in the next Buërstner model....
not available to retro fit as it has no cassette but, instead, a new macerator and black tank.
however, one novel design element is that it uses grey water from the waste tank to flush the loo thus saving fresh water.
the black waste passes through the macerator and is mixed with grey water before being disposed (when full) as 'slurry' via an external pipe and an exit module which sits over the drain and prevents splashes, spills and smells....apparently...
finally, the drain is cleaned with a blast of fresh water....
...or something like that
