Members' mail to sites

I sent some mail for a member on a club site. Just before departing, several days after the letter would have arrived, They called at the office to enquire if they had the mail, only to be told all members mail is being returned to sender. Anyone else experienced this?

    Did no one enquire with the warden in advance whether this was permissible in view of the current circumstances? I’d not dream of sending mail c/o a site office without clearing it with the staff first.😕

    I do recall a privous thread about getting permission from the wardens before arranging mail to be collected from sites. A while ago now don't recall fully but it did cover parcels, not sure about letters.

    Being able to send mail to a Site was quite a regular thing years ago, but I am not sure about protocol these days. It is also perhaps subject to special measures anyway given the current circumstances. As TW suggested, might have been best to check before sending.

    I am interested in how Club could send mail back to sender. How could they do this if no sender address on the mail? And who would pay?🤔

    It is put back in a post box marked 'return to sender' (as per Elvis) and the PO then open it and see if there is a return address available for them to return it to.

    The sender normally if he wishes to collect. The letter would be held for a period of time at the local sorting office and a slip delivered to the person sending it that there was mail for collection.  Sorry about the capitals. Fat finger syndrome

    Evening

    We take mail, we get shedloads. Thing is, people easily forget that we now have a new normal. By this I mean on our site reception doesn't open until 13.00, there's nowhere to leave mail safely. Our letterbox is closed to avoid handling anything that we don't have to. Mine and my colleagues safety comes first until the govt. tells us we can operate freely as the "old normal" We tell all our guests that if you're expecting mail to meet the delivery at the gate.

    Most of the shedloads we get gets left by the deliverer on the ground outside reception. Bit of a job trying to sort it out if it's been raining when we get back from site duties at 12.30.

    Even in normal circumstances I don't quite get the need to send "actual" mail to a campsite. Doesn't everyone use email or text now? Even a birthday card can be sent electronically!  I can understand an essential spare part being sent either by post or courier.
