I would take it as they were just testing the water. Having found it shark infested they are trying to get out as fast as possible.
Edit AD's post disappeared while I was posting, which makes my reply rather meaningless. Not sure why, he was simply stating that a member of Her Majesties Government was saying there was no such policy / suggestion.

we did pretty much the same lots of family quizes via Zoom, local gossip via local FB group, but I did break the rules but only on a couple of occasions, but as my OH was away for 8 weeks doing her carer bit i felt i was entitled, but only a small BBQ in our back garden, and a couple of extra walks for fido late at night0 -
It's not really, however the rate of infection in Italy is, currently anyway, much lower than in the UK.
But we shall, hopefully, enjoy both holidays fully - we shan't be spending a lot of time (apart from the flight) in close proximity to others and, as I said, taking all reasonable precautions.
Certainly not trying to besmirch the reputation of the fine county of Cumbria!

Moulesy, Italy is probably one of the safest places in Europe right now.
It would appear so, if the posts of another member, who arrived there a few days ago is anything to go by.
Its not off our list for this Sept/Oct that's for sure. France is our first choice, not so far to travel if we have to return home.

It certainly appears that way, but we know how quickly things can change.
If we go we'll be based near Lake Maggiore and there are also walks planned near Lakes Como and Orta.
Most of the time will be out in the open air, but we'll take exactly the same precautons as we did last week in Yorkshire!

The air on an aircraft is constantly recycled through HEPA filters and there is little threat in that respect. The diagram attached illustrates that ( you may have to enlarge it to read the information.)
There is a greater danger from surfaces, dining tables and in toilets etc. but we won't be using those. We will be aware and, as said, take every precaution (short of not actually flying!)

We did nothing except walks locally. We followed the rules and more. Then we were allowed to go to our static van, we had a socially distanced bbq with our neighbours and then my cousin and husband. Then we bubbled with our daughter and granddaughters. This week our son and family are staying with us, first time seeing them since Feb. Today we ate out! Our son in law manages the restaurant and we've seen their strict procedures, seemed ok, so hopefully. Normally we don't go far in the 'silly season' here so no beach trips for us until September. Lovely to be out again and see the views. The static park was quiet as long as we didn't go near the clubhouse. So glad that we have the static van and it seems they have sold loads in the last month. Basically we have decided that at our age we need to keep a middle road, not prepared to do nothing, at our age we need to make the most of our time but we know we still have to take great care. We don't need a government to tell us what we can do, just guidance and updates on the virus situation.

The handling of this pandemic is a farce generally. We start lifting lockdown when it suited London while northern politicians were pointing out that the north of the country hadn't passed the peak and guess what, the north of the country has now got 'extra prevention measures' because of increasing infection rates.
My suggestion is to close the pubs back down and close down sport again. The real crowds shown on the media these days tend to be football fans in pubs and large groups hugging each other when they win something and pubs full of large numbers of people within inches of each other.
Rant over but sorry Boris, you can ask all you like but I have no intention of adhering strictly to your governments 'guidance' any more until you come out with a holistic approach to this that doesn't include going to Barnard Castle for 'eye tests'

I am sure there are plenty of loved ones of those who have died. Are they to be denied a voice because they may be accused of "knowing how to run a country"?

I am 79 years of age and have been following all rules and advice since lockdown began. I have been away for a week on a site. I enjoy eating out but am not ready to resume that part of life yet and did not use any onsite facilities. In short I am being as careful as I can. However at my age I am at risk of heart problems, stroke, diabetes, motor neurone disease, and countless other things. CV19 is the latest risk. As I may die tomorrow should I stay at home or go away on holiday as carefully as possible?

If you are healthy, not suffering from the ailments you mention, and feel confident that you are able to enjoy your trip away without stress then I suggest you should do the latter.

I read somewhere that over the years the amount of fresh air taken in had been reduced and recirculating increased, which aided fuel economy. Hopefully in the short term they have turned it up again and are recirculating very little.
Apparently they were able to start increasing recirculation when smoking was banned.

It won't protect David since any infected air has to reach the heppa filters of the aircon plenty of time to infect you and presumably more infected air is available to replace it. It probably does mean however that not all of the passengers had the opportunity to develop the chest infection whereas without the filters everybody would have had the opportunity

Well, to be frank, my take on it (possibly incorrect) is this - can you imagine the repercussions if any new outbreak of the virus was traced to a particular flight with a particular airline? That airline would be out of business within 24 hours. I believe the airlines will be scrupulous in their measures just as the airports will. Too much faith? Maybe, but I could spend a couple of hours on a bus to Bristol with no less risk.

Air filtration is good on planes, surfaces are the potential problem and being in close proximity to someone who has an infectious illness. Cabin crews would be an ailing lot if the filtration wasn't good.
Don't know about ferries, hotels with air con, trains etc. At the moment it's an extra risk as it's such an invisible virus.
But, if we're being poetical once more as W Wordsworth might have said "keep your pecker up and enjoy the moment..."

From the BBC website yesterday.
"At least 41 passengers and crew on a Norwegian cruise ship have tested positive for Covid-19, officials say.
Hundreds more passengers who travelled on the MS Roald Amundsen are in quarantine and awaiting test results, the company that owns the ship said."
I'm amazed people for gone on cruising holidays already.
