Servicing in Covid Britain?

Hi, I had my ten year old caravan serviced as usual at the end of last summer. It has, and will have travelled twenty miles from the service centre and back by the time it requires servicing again.

As it is out of even an extended maker insurance scheme and in generally good condition it will, I suspect, not require its wheel bearings or brakes renewing! My inclination is to have it damp-checked and gas-checked, but nothing more.

Have others considered the strange circumstances and their effect on servicing?

Having entered the ' vulnerable octogenarian' category I am more than aware that I present a slower moving target for the ever-vigilant insurance companies and wouldn't like to give them an opportunity to nail me for anything!

grease can solidify over years and also the handbrake could stick after a long period of time. I would tow van every couple of months for a few miles, just to keep brakes and bearings free.

For the extra few pounds i would want the piece of mind the brakes are serviced and in working order after a lengthy period of not being used.

If cost is a major issue for you I would forgo the damp check unless your caravan has a history of damp.

We last had our van out in February of this year and it was due its annual service in March.  Things changed and it didn't get serviced until last month but we're now good to go and I have peace of mind that everything has been checked.  All being well, we might manage a trip out next month, using our own facilities.

Better safe than sorry our caravan is fully serviced every year by a workshop approved mobile engineer so no backwards and forwards to the dealer and he is cheaper
