ET, but this isn’t all about you & your little world. It’s the bigger picture. I believe the Govt will use the impose option to aim at the lowest common denominator. Govts don't aim at folk with common sense who will do what’s best for them & the wider world they aim at the ones who look for ‘wriggle room’ In everything they view as stopping or changing their lives I’m afraid🤷🏻‍♂️☹️.

During the lockdown period here in Wales I went around to my recently widowed neighbour to advise on some matters and also pond planting and drainage issues. For anybody widowed for 3 months I would do the same. We socially distanced

On the contrary it is all about me and my little world which is indeed, at present, very small undecided

The only consequential imposition would be not meeting up outside. I would do as I felt morally right, still distancing.

I beg to differ ET. The Govt is looking at This country’s whole inhabitants & their well-being not just your household. To bring it down to you is not what the thread is about.

From reports I have been reading today it looks as though the approach  would be more targeted, rather than simply those over a certain age. It would therefore need doctors to comb through their records to identify those that are most at risk. It was a difficult enough job to identify those that had to shield last time. Much more difficult if the numbers are increased and the severity of identified issues reduced.

For that reason and the fact that it would be impossible to police, I feel it is a non starter in a mandatory form. Advised possibly, told I think unlikely.

You get a reality check if you go away, younger families and children going in and out of the facility areas, older people less so. People are policing themselves except the few who feel invincible. wink

Good luck with that then. My youngest is vulnerable and it took until early July receive a shielding letter.to enable her to get priority food ordering and her prescription picked up. She has pretty bad asthma and was being treated for pneumonia. She also has arthritis. Fortunately she is usually well stocked up for when her arthritis is really bad.

My eldest is diagnosed as being in heart failure. It took 8 weeks to get a shielding letter.

I quite agree. We are happy walking cycling or travelling in our own vehicles, at home or on a site but only touching essential taps etc.. No plans to use toilet facilities other than our own, nor to travel on buses taxis trains or planes. Essential food shopping only for us, no interest in pubs cafes eateries or any other establishments for the foreseeable future.

The thread is about possible changes.

For me it is purely about me and OH. Our activity does not put others at risk. Were such advice to be offered I believe that its only purpose would be to make the death stats look better. If advice is given then it is simply advice for those to whom it is directed to consider. That is the purpose of advice.

If the death stats look better, surely that means less people are dying. Thats a good thing isn't it.

In some ways yes. However those vulnerable that are shielding are the ones most likely to die.

This is our touring mantra as well, but no Club Sites involved, too heavily populated for us.

I think in the age group mentioned there are probably two types of attitudes to COVID. Some will cast caution to the wind or perhaps be fatalistic about any possible outcome. The other group will be much more cautious in their approach and probably be quite nervous about taking too many risks. In a way I could understand the position of  a Government taking a decision to suggest to the 50 plus category that they need to think seriously about what they do and where they go. The reason I say this is that it is this age group that has the worse consequences from getting COVID. I suppose by age and conditions Margaret and I, whilst not in the shielding group, would certainly be in the vulnerable group. I think there are other considerations as well. Essential that we get kids back to school. Pretty essential that we get the economy as back to normal as soon possible but not above keeping people safe. I don’t imagine that the Government really have it in mind to lock us down as they did in March but there might be a suggested half way house. Personally I feel that I am still in a sort of lockdown but in the main it is self-imposed. It is very sad that you can’t meet your own adult children and give them a hug. Whilst we have met up with both sons and their partners it is always at a distance and certainly lacks any sense of intimacy which reduces it to the level of meeting strangers! As for camping we are away at the moment and it does feel somewhat strange and as yet we are undecided whether we will go away again this year? We feel there is a restriction on what we do, albeit self-imposed. So until we can regain the enjoyment of being away and do all the things that make being away in the van enjoyable I am not convinced it’s actually worth it.

Unfortunately millions around the world are no longer alive because they have the ‘invincible’ gene & arrogance. I truly believe that is Darwin’s law at work. I will go with my logic. Others I’m happy to let jump into the void👍🏻

I know you live in Scotland TG and i know from the experience of living there that there are some good areas where you can be relatively free of people, but cannot you do most of what you suggest from home.

I lived 5 miles outside of Turriff Aberdeenshire for 12 years and only started carvaning because we new our stay in Scotland would be short but we wanted to explore as much as possible and we exhausted most of the areas within a days driving distance of home so we purchased caravan so we could go away for weekends/holidays and explore further.

Now we live in an area where we can still do most of what we want using home as a base and although we love to get away to explore new places and re-visit old, currently we feel we are happy with our lot just now and although touring in the caravan would be good it is not the be all and end all, and it is very crowded down here, although we have still not discounted France/Spain early September, but since all this began i have never been further than 10 miles from our bungalow, OH is MIL's carer so she has been allowed to travel to Tring, on a number of occasions.

If it was brought in for the 50 - 70 age group to NOT tour how would that work. Folk between the age of 50 - 66 are working age so if its OK to go to work why would it not be to tour

I guess this is called taking the route of least resistance whilst at the same time trying to keep the country afloat, so by people not touring we reduce the risk of carrying the virus around, although the age span does seem to be a bit weird, 60 - 70 maybe. As i said in an earlier post if this is what we have to do so our kids can get back to school, i am up for it.

We can point the finger of blame at whoever for all of this, but take a look at Australia just now, Melbourne curfew 2000 hrs - 0500 hrs daily, keep within 5kms of your house, 1 shop per day for essentials and they expect it to be in force for 6 weeks, new outbreaks now in France/Spain/Germany,, 13  new cases in just 1 pub in Aberdeen, it aint going to be easy.

Are you properly qualified as to procedures required to deal with something that has not occurred since the black death?Perhaps you should lead the country and the world out of this crisisundecided

Of course we can that's what we have been doing since the beginning.

Since its been eased we have been going away in Scotland to explore other areas (and hopefully will continue to do so)

My point is that folk going to work and mixing with others in an indoor environment is surely more risky than going to a campsite, where most of ones time is spent outdoors and away from others.

I agree the push is for the economy to get back on track and for the children to go back to school. The risks are coming from the likes of pubs and other indoor venues, not outdoor living.

We are still hoping to get away in September to France and unless we are 'told' not to, we will go. This is going to be around for quite some time and putting life on hold isn't what we want to do.

We will follow the guidance about staying safe, just as we have since the beginning. One has to take ones health and welfare seriously its in ones interest to do so. Why would we not, we have no health issues, we are under the age of concern and reasonably fit. Everyone has to do what they are comfortable with, what is fine for one is not for another.

EDit: as for localised outbreaks this was to be expected, the scientists and the government knew this from the very beginning. That is why the tracing system is so important. Where big areas are to be lockdown like Leicester and Manchester, well I have my own ideas as to why but will not mention on here as it would breech the rules.wink

That is exactly the point I was making yesterday, TG, but I got pulled up for using that expression! wink

We have booked a walking holiday in Italy in September (Italy does look relatively safe at the moment) and will go unless there is a sudden change in the quarantine rules on return. Yes, it will mean flying and a hotel stay, but we will take all the precautions we reasonably can. Most of our time will be spent out of doors. Then a cottage week in Coniston  in October - probably more risky - but again we will be extremely cautious. If official "advice"/"instructions" change we will be guided by any new rules, but, lovely though Wiltshire is, we still want to visit other places. smile

well to put a post on here asking who ever has NOT broken the rules since this pandemic started to put their hand in the air, would not seem the most intelligent of things to do, hence the lack of response, at least driving to test his eyesight did provoke a knee jerk reaction undecided

Sorry, but it;s the truth. We're lucky that I don't need to go anywhere (except to click and collect straight into the car boot once a month).

All interaction cancelled, but lots of entertainment via Zoom concerts and other online gigs.

Local gossip via a WhatsApp group and the postman (from across the farm yard).
