The book has been sitting on my shelf since we moved to this house 20+ years ago but at 1500 pages long has always been a bit too daunting!

But this new production, written by Andrew Davis, has saved me the effort! wink

A marvellous first episode last week, stunning scenery, good acting and a strong storyline made for perfect Sunday evening viewing. Can't wait till 9 o'clock for part 2! smile

It does repay "full watching" to appreciate the complexities of the relationships between the various families and the ramifications of the political and religious factions on them, so do persevere. I'm sure it's a very much abridged and adapted version of the book but I'm not sure I'll be reading it to check!  wink

For me, BTW, "half watching" (if that) is for sitcoms and soaps, and considerably less than half for party political broadcasts! laughing

I tried to read the book but couldn’t get into it. I love the TV version though.
