Hi new to all of this, so apologies for any mistakes. We have recently bought a converted campervan, we also got an awning and this is where things went a wee bit wrong. Took grandkids away, so hubby and I slept in an inflatable mattress in awning and it was so cold. Awning has an attached groundsheet but I was wondering if there are thermal groundsheets available. Look online and only found waterproof ones. Thank in advance for any help.  Loving van life

Welcome to the group. It seems you have a computer generated username. Might be an idea to visit your profile and add a few details.

There’s a lot of that about, David. Another glitch in the system but, as you suggest, it can be changed in My Profile.

Welcome, newcomer. I can’t help with the groundsheet issue I’m afraid but enjoy your new van.

    Hi and welcome.

Go Outdoors sell loads of different ones. You could pick up a Trekker Thermal sleeping mat for £9 online at the moment.

If you are already using an inflatable mattress, I don't think a sleeping mat under it will make much difference at this time of year, the ground isn't that cold. More of a problem I would think is the unseasonably low air temperatures we have been getting lately.

We used either, inflatables, or the thermal mats when we tented and particularly remember one August, where the nights were very cold and our summer sleeping bags not up to the job. Hopefully August will be a warmer month overall than July.🤞

A&C, check your sleeping bags are up to the job, it sounds like you need 4 seasons, that delivers extra thermal properties👍🏻

Welcome Ali and Chris, definitely check your sleeping bag grades. Ours are three season, OK inside the van but you need better insulation if you're sleeping outside, especially the further north you go.

Yes, as a former Back-packer I can verify that if your sleeping outside the caravan/motorhome, then you do need good insulation beneath you as well as around you. Karrimats and a 4 season sleeping bags would be a good investment.

I was out one year in the lake district in January and it snowed heavily during the night, but I was toasty inside the tent and sleeping bag. laughing

Well, six months on from your original post, so I'm hoping you have had a fair few warmer nights -- well you don't want the grand-kiddiewinkies throwing snowballs or building slides in the awning now do you.

Still, if you are like so many on here, scratching away at the starting blocks, then we should all be running wild & loose by Easter or such-like wink  I hope you have found a bundle of warmth for that awning, Best Wishes,
