In 1968 at the age of 4 I vaguely remember being taken to Rhyl by grandparents in a 2 berth Sprite towed by a little sporty MG! Mum and Dad took us to Anglesey, they broke down and a farmer loaned them the use of a damp and web ridden caravan for the night.... Our holidays were spent in a tent with a bucket and toilet seat... In 1990 we bought an old Abbey Cambridge with glass windows. Our first trip out on a very hot day with a baby and barking dog resulted in a passing lorry flirting a stone into the caravan window and smashing it... We returned home and sold the van. We purchased a Conway Countryman folding camper c.86 and had many good hols before returning to caravans.

I now have a 11 month old grandson and cannot wait to introduce him to adventures?!

    LATE JOINER TO THE DISCUSSION!..

As a child I fondly remember holidays in static vans, mostly Rhyl and Staining.

Our first tourer was an Elddis Whirlwind 1980 about 11-12 feet long.

We had 1240 socket 1 12 volt socket  12 volt fluorescent strip lights and 2 gas mantles (which we didn't use!) and a foot operated water pump and a portapotti and a flip up sink and the soap frequently got lost down the gap at the back

Fond memories, so naive were we that the first time out we didn't take the battery as advised by the salesman..he shall remain nameless although he is still a salesman!!

Early 60s, as a child with parents. Static at Rockly Sands near Poole. No plumbing, no electrics (just gas lighting with the delicate mantles), water came in a big plastic churn collected from the nearest tap and waste water was carried to the drain in a big galvanised bucket. Toilet block, don't even think about showers!

How on earth did I think of buying a caravan 50 years later.

This one. Looks like a tourer used as a static.
