Club wifi, again!
Arrive on Club site, find Club wifi on phone, connect. No welcome page is shown in browser. What do I do?

Try using your phone as a mobile data hotspot instead of wifi - turn off wifi connection. You won’t be using Club wifi, but at least you might get connected.

Problem solved. I had a word with the warden who informed me that although there was wifi on the site it didn't connect and that the Club were looking into the costs involved with connecting to fibre which, apparently, runs within 20 yards of the site entrance. The Club needs get this sorted out on sites. Paying a premium for this service, then being told it is unavailable, even though site details say it is, is unacceptable and, at least, misleading. Perhaps I should ask for a refund!

Camelford.

Camelford is listed as a hot spot site, which probably means bandwidth is very limited. If several were trying to use the hotspot simultaneously I suspect it was overloaded and just locked up. Although the data cable runs close to the site entrance, presumably the cabinet is some way away, otherwise they would get a better connection.
We are 300 metres from the fibre optic in the cabinet and get 68 MB through a copper cable. Unfortunately I suspect tapping into the cable, will be considerably more expensive than me signing up to BT Halo.

You also need to be in range of the hotspot as it won’t feed the whole site.
The one at Dunnet Bay works in the laundry room whist the Morn Hill hotspot just manages to reach a couple of pitches closest to the office.

I suppose that you use a mobile phone a lot then. I have dumb phone and probably sent two texts since lockdown and taken 2 calls. Hence I prefer site wifi or our own mifi. OH has a smart phone for when she doesn't want to carry a camera and has probably made two calls on it in 12 months.

I have a bubble app on my smart phone which can be used to find the most level part of the pitch, HS or otherwise, and it doesn't need site wifi or mobi data to use it.
There you go, no off topic stuff involved.😆

ET, so you just charge it up & let it sit there until it needs charging again🤷🏻♂️. I have Apps to engage with, reminders set, my bank with me, I use it to pay for things, weather, satnav, an encyclopaedia, maps, camera-that’s not even scratching the surface of how useful they are. I love my phone👍🏻
PS-it’s a shocker that, ET not phoning Home😊

We've just bought some light bulbs from Wiiko that links to your wifi and you can control them (on off, brightness, even colour, timer) through a phone app from anywhere with a data signal.
Tested it from a few miles away and spent a happy 10 minutes last night sitting in the garden making a light show inside the house
Useful for when being away for security.

In normal times (to use a well worn phrase) It means that I am contactable when away from home. However when I am at home folk call my landline. As for charging it I do so about every 10 to 14 days lest I forget.

That's all well and good but does it fit in the ticket pocket of one of your jackets? The point being that mine is easier to carry for me. It sits in my right hand front trouser pocket and I am accessible anywhere all the wakening day.
I also can set reminders, wallet and cards in left pocket, premier customer with main bank and excellent phone service, satnav in car where it belongs and often tablet in there too.
You say you love your phone, I love mine for its ability to get lost in my trouser pocket. I love it that much that I bought two. One as a spare and to hell with the expense

Alexa sorts it on my echo dots. ‘Alexa-lounge lighting to low’ bang she sorts it. Geez I love tech😊
yup, the world is our Lobster.

I don’t know what a ticket pocket size is🤷🏻♂️ My phone is slim, thin & light it happily sits in my cargo pocket. Everything is in one place & cant be lost or mislaid. If yours is a clamshell I expect it’s older & low tech.

Mmm, I remember clamshells were quite thick and bulky by their very nature.
My only regret with the smart phone is that I didn't make the change earlier. It wasn't until about 7 years ago that I realised I was missing out when a friend sang the praises of his 4s and I saw a whole new World out there.👍

You cold probably get a credit card into a ticket pocket but it would likely be a tight squeeze. My phone is smaller in both length and width at 3.25'' x 1.75'' x 0.7''
85mm x 43mm x 17mm
Its not that old - only about 10 years and charged every 10 days on holidays whether it needs it or not. The beauty of the clamshell is that it is happy to rub along with my keys and doesn't get pocket lint over the keys. It also cannot be misplaced as I always know it is in the right hand front pocket of any trouser or jeans that I am using or in my hand in use.

Yep, that's thick. It has to be to fold in the way it does. My smartphone is less than half that thickness.
BTW, you must have a very fat credit card, Easy😀

2019 Galaxy 10 is 17mm thick and so mine is thicker but 65 mm shorter and 27mm narrower. I would not fancy a similar phone in my jeans or trouser pocket all day every day 365 days a year.
my flip top occupies two thirds the volume of the Galaxy S10 and less than half the weight. The galaxy S10, which I consider a mid size smartphone and the smallest screen size I could cope with .
BTW, you must have a very fat credit card, Easy😀
Never said that the phone was thinner than my credit card but certainly a significantly smaller footprint

My S10 variant is 142x70x8. Tbh, 17mm thick is huge for a smartphone and you've misread it I think, Easy, as the S10 is 150x70x8.
Yes, the width and height of mine is more than yours but it’s edge to edge glorious technicolour screen.😄
My comment about the credit card was because you told Rocky he'd be hard pushed to fit a credit card in the pocket you keep your phone in. Clearly, that was a joke.

We didn't get one until 2014, an iphone 5S, which we still have along with a first generation SE. We originally didn't think we needed one but we're talked into it. How wrong we were, they are so useful! As with our dumb phones they don't get used much as a standard phone, but are fully utilised for multiple applications, many of which run offline. I really like those that you can download for places you visit, such as one we used for a battlefield in France.
Mine also travels happily in my cargo pocked, in a little case that protects the screen. Although if you use disposable screen protectors like my son you don't need to bother. There are no keys to get linted up and on his no charging port or ear phone socket either.

ET, they are now keyless(buttonless) it’s all capacitive, lintless. I guess with your lack of interest in phone tech It’s ideal for you👍🏻. I let my GK’s play with my last Motorola until it gave in. The new Razr is flip & top tech👍🏻

I know how to use one and all about the buttonless etc. I also know that any that I might choose would be 50% bigger by volume far longer and wider than my phone and particularly in a case, and consequently not on my person at all times. Does your phone stay on your person at all times even when wearing jeans and working in the garden etc?
I bought Fliss a £500 smartphone for her birthday last year (it is her birthday today). The purchase was mainly to make it easier to take images without the bulk of a camera in her bag. Has, on occasion, used it to navigate in city areas. For a daily carry she has a small flip top like mine.
For internet use I prefer my 10'' Tablet. It is to hand in the car on days out along with the mifi.

Yes it does, it’s my money(I don’t carry a wallet) it’s my camera, it’s my satnav, it’s my Bank. I don’t like bulky I like slim. It also mirrors on a smart TV as in what’s on the phone screen is on the TV screen so it’s like a home cinema👍🏻😊.
PS-I don’t wear jeans, it’s soooo Jeremy Clarkson😂
