Overnight near Plymouth
Please does anybody know of any overnight sites near Plymouth. I hadn't realised when we booked our ferry (last year) that it would arrive in Plymouth around 10.30 p.m. We had planned to drive up A38 to M5 back to Yorkshire the next morning. I've tried a few sites but it is BH weekend, and also one site said their insurance stopped them from taking anyone straight from the ferry. We don't need any facilities, just somewhere safe to stay.

This is the site I usually suggest.

You don’t say whether you have a MH or caravan. If it’s a MH, you may well be able to find a pub stop of some sort.

You can stay overnight on the ferryport grounds at Plymouth after you arrive. Double right back after passport control and park in the main parking area in front of the passenger terminal building. The parking meters say that the first two hours are free then £12 for the next 24 hours, but I don't know what time the man comes round in the morning to check.
Another option would be a motorway service station such as Exeter, Taunton or Sedgmoor if you want to get part way home.

Also, Jenny Cliff, Staddon Lane, Plymouth, PL9 9SP
Large car park, popular with motorhomers, great views over Plymouth Sound. Does slope a bit.

Yes that is allowed. It is more common with outbound passengers waiting for an early morning departure who line up overnight in the check in lanes, but that is not really possible for your inbound journey, so I suggest you have a good walk round the port area in daylight to find the parking area I mentioned and assess the situation before your first departure.
But Tinwheeler and Seaside Bill both have local knowledge and have given you sensible alternatives.
