With our shower, all this frequent cleaning and drying does not seem necessary.

When we pitch, I make sure the van has a slight lean so the water drains well, then we have a squeegee thing if we want to take water off the walls, normally we do not bother, and we have an Omnivent in the roof which we run for about 30 minutes, with the window open a crack, to remove any damp air.

When extra cleaning is required, we try to do this when on a serviced pitch, or at least when we are near the service point.

That second image reminds me very much of the 4.2m Monza Elegance which I loved the layout of.

Ours I recall was a 14' 4'' Supreme Elegance and probably 2 or 3 years later model than yours. We bought it in 1995 I think. It had a single at the front end with a bunk above and made a double at the rear. My wife and I bought it as we reckoned our youngest would probably stop coming away with us in a few years and be off to college. Eldest was in university. I fitted a spare wheel cradle at the back of the gas locker - yes it did fit in; took out the front bunk. I didn't install hot water but I did install mains electric and although there was originally no mains electric the fridge was actually 3 way. It made a great two berth later as I used two timber boards and a seat cushion from a 3 piece suit so that making a single across the front was easy. When using it on my own it was also great.

David -  I had to read your post twice, to make sure I was reading it right.  Particularly the last paragraph.  You are joking, of course??

I did the same with my carpets in my new Cvan, I put them in the bed locker until I sold the van👍🏻

While we would not choose a van on the upholstery, there are lots of features much more important, we would not buy one with upholstery we could not live with.  Fortunately what we have is reasonably neutral.

We also cover the front seats, though just the bits we sit on, not the backs.  We have 2 sets of cotton covers I made, one set in use and one set spare for long trips, and they get washed after each trip.

Wow, David, I salute your commitment to ensuring the next owners of your van have a palace but after paying for it with your hard earned cash, don’t you feel you should be enjoying its loveliness too?!!

Yes, I agree some interior designers of caravans and motorhomes need lessons on paring back a bit.  Mind you one lady we were pitched up beside last year would definitely not agree.  We sat amazed when she appeared dressed in a pinny of a style my granny used to wear. She then brought out from the car boot a full sized hoover to attack her carpets and then cleaned her caravan’s windows. Every morning. Takes all sorts!

We do similar to AD. Replace the van's carpet with a piece of cheap carpet, which we then cover with a washable piece is fabric, which goes in the washer each time we are home. Cover all seats and backs, and because we have a dog and are generally away for up to 10 weeks at a time, place an additional, easily washed throw over the main seats.

We started with an old CI caravan in around 1990 which was nice but very basic it didn’t have hot water and had a foot pump for the cold water also 12v lights and a little ports potti we had many happy holidays in it all over the UK. After a particularly wet holiday in Wales one year we sold the van and didn’t have one for a few years. We then bought a 1989 ABI Monza from a neighbour in around 2004 to give caravannong a try again and we fell in love with it again. This van was a step up on the last one and had a Carver heater and hot water but still quite basic with a porta potti and only a grill no oven. We had many happy weekends and holidays with this one and had one of our favourite ever holidays in it down in Devon it was a good van to get started on again and confirmed that we wanted to go back to a caravan again so after a couple of years we traded it in for a 4 year old Compass which was another world compared to the other two with all mod cons we had this van for 8 years and toured extensively with it both in the UK and in France it had blown air heating cassette toilet etc wonderful best van we have had so far well worth the money we spent on it. We only sold it as we bought a motorhome which was great too and we had that for 4 years before going back to a caravan. We bought our current caravan a Lunar brand new almost 3 years ago and this one is bang up to date we have a huge washroom at the back and it’s very comfy and easy to tow I am sitting in it as I write this lol The only thing that it hasn’t got is Alde heating but we have found the blown air truma system fine so can’t complain. We enjoyed all the vans we have had and some of our happiest memories have been in the 2 more basic ones but we wouldn’t go back now we like all the mod cons in our current t van.

PS this has been a good thread to read nice to hear people stories and memories of days gone by

One thing I forgot to add is that even although our previous 2 vans had showers we rarely used them preferring on site facilities but our current caravan has a large rear washroom and we use the shower most of the time now as we have plenty of space to get changed dried etc. We are away just now have been for the past 9 nights and have only use on site showers twice so far preferring to use our own as it’s more convenient especially in the current situation .
