VAT reduced to 5% on campsite fees

for example imagine the published price is £30
that is made up of £25 plus 20% VAT = 20 + 5 = £30
New price is £25 + 5% VAT = 25 + 1.25 = £26.25
a saving of £3.75 which is a saving of 12.5% on £30
It works for any published price, looks as if it shouldn't but it does.

Dont think so.
If you take 12.5% of the stated price (club site fee + 20% VAT) you end up with the site fee + 5 % VAT. So the full 15% reduction in VAT is passed on the the customer.

Thanks everyone, really looking forward to getting away in August, photos are, old motorhome and new motorhome
Cheers

yes, my mistake, as I described above, it is an overall reduction every time of 12.5%
1 -
Example using £100 for clarity:
Site price = £100 +20% vat = £120
Site price = £100 + 5% vat = £105
Site price was £120 including 20% vat, but is now minus 12.5% and that = £105 which is the same as the 5%
If you took 15% away it would be £102
EDIT: Sorry Corners, duplicated, it took me that long to work it out

In a post a few pages ago JK posted
"That's the new normal, so arrival times on all our sites is now 1pm. Reception doesn't open until then or there"
I can't say I have picked up on that and the site pages, for the sites we are visiting that were 12 noon, are still showing 12 noon. Could cause a bit of a hold up if reception does not open till 1pm.
Perhaps they are putting it in the enjoy your holiday emails. However, these don't always seem to arrive.

For anyone remotely interested, and even I wouldn't be but it's drizzling outside.
For any published price P, the new price is 0.8749... x P
Which is always a saving of 12.5%

Yep, we did that already, Brue😂😂😂

Again no problem at all, as I always used to say - a lot,
maths is fun with a capital F.
I actually used to say that and do the F with my arms at the same time. Most times the class would say it with me, and sometimes they would do the F as well.
It was quite funny to notice they wouldn't say and do the F with me after years 7&8, but it would reappear in year 11.

Thanks Metheven and ShaneB for the information. Didn't see the C&MC notice when I logged on this morning after the downtime, perhaps because it pages through on the main page. Nothing on FB either because when CT was down I went there instead.

But it was there yesterday and I think the days before.
No need to thank me PD, always happy to help

It definitely was not published yesterday, even staff replying to question on FB were trotting out the standard reply "awaiting further information from government" If it was available sooner, why has it taken until today to flag up the information?

well I saw it even if you didn't PD, FB should have had access to a serving warden like we do, one of the advantages of CT I suppose
But the official line was up thread, and even how it was to be applied was discussed by JK a day or so ago.
why the interest, going to a club site. or just idle curiosity?

When I arrived yesterday at Carsington Water, the bill was adjusted to account for the one day at the old price and one at the new. I did notice the beads on the office abacus looked a bit worn.

I don't disagree with it JVB. It is just apart from JK's statement, I've not seen any mention of it. As I put, the site pages still show 12 noon. If it is 1pm for all sites the club need to start communicating that.
Just noticed you put that. Things don't half take a long time to appear, these days.

No, I was on a solo trip round Scotland last November and stoped in the coach & lorry park in Oban, just having a coffee and it exploded with me in it, spent the next two and a half weeks in a Burns unit, I'm glad the wife wasn't with me or she would have ended up in hospital with me, or worse.
Got a new Elddis Encore 254 now and can't wait to get away in it

You obviously have better eyesight than me CS. I was well aware of JK's post but I was looking for the Club's official staement. Apart from that JK did not specifically state the Club was applying the 5 percent. It could have simply referred to the governments statement. I have still yet to see the official line up thread of Metheven's post.

Thanks JB, no there was nothing left of it but the chassis & engine, my guess is that a pipe came off under the bed, I parked up, turned the gas cylinder on then lit the fridge and made a cup of coffee, 5 mins later it just exploded and blew all the windows out and caught fire.
Gas is heavier than air so it must have filled up from the floor up and the only point of ignition must have been the fridge pilot light, never smelt a thing but I had the dealer fit me a LPG detector to the new MH before I took delivery

Corners, wouldn't it just be easier to say that the new price is 7/8ths of the published price?
1 -
well not really PD, JK did state quite clearly it would be applying the discount, and really nothing to do with the government statement, posted on the 12th:
Morning
Yes you're quite correct. Bookings that straddle the 15th have to be split. I'm not a computer type so who knows why? Wednesday the site staff will apply the discount at pos.
Booking from the 15th will have the discount already taken
JK
What did you think the discount referred to was? OK he didn't actually say 5% but you're clutching at straws (your own phrase) to suggest any other figure?
Also from Ro on the 9th:
We welcome the UK Governments decision to reduce VAT on camping and are now looking at how this can be applied to members’ bookings
Again to me that states the reduction will be applied, all that was missing is how.

yes but that is not what Shane B asked:
Genuine question why only 12.5% reduction? Should it not be 15%
So I was attempting to explain to him why it was 12.5%. Saying it was 7/8 wouldn't have answered that.

Well have a go if you wish AD and ridicule me, but I only tried to help a fellow poster with his genuine question.
