Noisy water supply - Truma & Whale Componentry

Hello

We have a new van which is a Adria Adora and was collected the day before sites were reopened.

The first outing just happens to be two weeks away in Devon.

No major issues to report. Its the first van we've had were I have NOT spent days reattaching items that come off in our hands, leaked or just didn't work. Sadly, goodbye English built vans.

That said, the water supply is noisy in that there is a tapping pulsating noise as the pump operates. I prefer to work out small issues myself, so won't be calling the dealer unless I'm unable to resolve the noise.

The noise emanates from pressure valve.

The pump is a Truma Ultraflow connected via a Whale pressure valve (white with tap on top) along with a damper.

I only have our previous vans Whale IC system to compare to. This made no discernable noise other than the motor as expected.

It would appear that this system is cycling really quickly between open and closed which is indicated when a overhead light is on(12v), as that gently flickers also (voltage fluctuations from pump on pump off) yet there is NO pulsating of the water flow.

I've got the Whale instructions re setting the valve but before I disturb current settings, should the valve click open only at request of supply and off again at finish of supply or is it a characteristic of this system?

Here is what I tried to describe.

Has anyone else  experienced similar and found a cure to lessen the intrusive noise?

Not sure if this is related but I had a problem when I picked up my new van. The heating was very noisy and racing around the van. Dealer advised turning down the flow rate valve on the pump which was a quick and simple solution

I had to adjust the pressure switch when I had a similar problem on two different previous caravans which solved the problem. I see you already have the YouTube video for this.

    Thanks for the replies.

That video is actually mine taken of the noise I am experiencing as it really is.

It is not the noise of heating water coursing through pipes but the mechanical tapping of the pressure switch for the tap water I am hearing.

I've already reduced the pressure but still get the noise.

I would try winding the pressure right off then try and increases pressure a bit at a time, would have thought this would have been picked up by dealer during pre delivery checks clearly not right.

Shouldn't make that or any noise, the only noise I hear is the actual pump working!  Try adjusting the pressure switch, it is quite straight forward; if that does not work, I would contact the dealer to preserve the guarantee.

    Thanks for your reply.

Already tried reducing pressure and resetting as per Whale instructions.

    Same noise regardless.

    Cheers for your reply

I think you are right re that the noise should be less but I only have the Whale IC system to compare against from which there was only the noise of the pump.

Please can I ask what system set up do you have from which you have based your observations on?

Re the dealer, I have no issue them or with the PDI. I have enjoyed the experience with them.

Everything works, nothing has fallen off in my hands, the water boiler and heating touch screen haven't failed on first trip out, the led tail lights worked first time without an additional module, the shower hasn't leaked and they didn't forget to put a fibre washer in the gas pig tail, all of which occurred with our last two caravans of British manufacturer.

So I suppose in all reality a slightly noisy pressure switch is of little consequence.

I shall call it a minor irritant.

I suppose I was just looking for people with the same system to say either "yes mine sounds like that !" or "I have that same set up and it is relatively quiet in operation !" so if and when I decide to liaise with the dealer I am armed with the relevant information to assist.

Same as yours, Trauma Ultraflow with Whale pump into Aquaroll and Whale (I think as it looks same as yours) pressure switch.  Probably not relevant, but are the 'O' rings on the pump connector to the caravan clean and OK?  Try putting a little Olive Oil on them to ensure good fit.  My suggestion re dealer was that I assume your caravan is under Gttee and as such it is the dealers problem to sort it out.

I can only agree.....contact the dealer.  That would drive me crazy!

Our previous van had the same system and there was a little "clicking" if the pressure switch was not correctly adjusted, but nothing like that!!

    That is definitely not right.

Could the damper be faulty and affecting the pressure switch?

So you have the same system. Brilliant.

Can you assist with a video of yours in operation?

That way I have something as a comparison if I'm told "They all sound like that sir"

Not necessary; and my caravan is in store.  It just works quietly with the only noise coming from the outside pump, there is no clicking or banging!!  Be assured it does not sound like yours and if someone says that is normal they are talking porkies!    If re setting the pressure valve does not sort it just get back to the dealer, it is his problem to sort out.

    Oh. OK then.

Everything is connected as should be. No leaks of water or air. Pump O-rings lubricated with the correct silicon grease I carry. Its function is fine but the noise is my issue.

Yes, I already understand it is the dealer's responsibility. It's stated a few times in this thread.

Being mechanically minded I suppose that I was also hoping via this caravan technical thread (not a dealer complaints thread) to understand it from a technical point of view  just in case there is something simple I can rectify myself.

    Never mind.

    Cheers for your input.

    Hi

I know this is a few years old now, but did you solve the problem.

We're away for first time in our Adria and have the same noise.

    Thanks

    Hello

Yes. One person operating a tap when requested, whilst I turned the pressure switch clockwise in increments until the frequency was faster and became less noticeable. This does add pressure into the system but I've had no issues.
