I watched. the chancellors statement and it was quite clear that his intention was to help the leasure industry by reducing vat thus reducing the cost for customers to encourage them to get out more not to give the money direct to business, just like the half price meals, I think the government has helped business enough with the enormous amount of money handed out, don't forget this will have to be repaid back out of our pockets

I think they are looking to persuade folks to get out and book a holiday, hence a drop in price to the consumer is the incentive. There’s still a degree of worry out there around taking a holiday and going inside an eatery.

You definitely have missed it but it depends on whether the sites you use are VAT registered. Doubtless some will not be. I suspect that it is possible that reducing the prices of main sites may have an adverse effect on smaller non VAT registered business.

There are a number of CMC sites where I paid around £27 last year. OK we are in a dearer part of the year. Clumber Park at end of September shows as £20.90 for a couple. Assuming that they have not applied any price reduction that would be £18.30. I have used CLs with hard standing, toilets and showers well groomed grass alongside the hardstand and water on pitch .... rarely drainage, for £20 a night.

We on the other hand have used a Cornish CL, HS, loos and showers, dog walk field.......and a swimming pool and spa pool for £12 per night!

Not entirely nonsense. Whether it is a motorhome or camper that is occupying a pitch then, regardless, the pitch fees attract reduced VAT rate.
However if you rent a houseboat or a static you also benefit from the discount but, as I read it, there is no discounted rate on motorhome hire costs. I assume this is what Justdoit was referring to.

The fact that you can get a CL with butler service for £12 a night is irrelevant TDA.
I was comparing with sites that I have used at the £20 mark

Your maths is a little bit off.
The reduction will be 12.5%, so you'll pay £26.25.
If the ex-VAT price is £25. At 20% VAT, you'd pay £25 x 1.2 = £30.
At 5% VAT, you'll pay £25 x 1.05 = £26.25.

A far as I'm concerned, something is a £price plus vat, then if vat is reduced, the total price for the customer will be less than when vat was a higher rate and the whole point of reducing the price for camp sites etc is to get Joe Public to put his hand in his pocket and spend spend spend (to quote Viv Nicholson)

It probably is😂, but I am still on that £12 CL rather than the VAT reduced Club Site.
Maths was never my strong point, I confess.

With regard to the reduction in VAT from Wednesday - we are going to Richmond Hargill Monday to Friday next week. I went into my booking today purely by chance and noticed that my booking has now been changed into two separate ones - on for Monday departing Wednesday and another for arrival Wednesday departing Friday. I definitely didn’t book it that way originally. At first I thought the latter days had been removed, but then noticed the second reservation. There doesn’t appear to be any reduction in price on the latter, but maybe the club has done this as precursor to reducing the price for the second half.?

Yes you're quite correct. Bookings that straddle the 15th have to be split. I'm not a computer type so who knows why? Wednesday the site staff will apply the discount at pos.
Booking from the 15th will have the discount already taken

I am sure there will be those like yourself. However, there will be plenty like us. We are very unlikely to book any more site nights than we have already for our tour. We never did do a lot of pubs and restaurants and are even less inclined over the next few months. Most of our time away will be spent taking pleasant walks in rural surroundings, very much keeping ourselves to ourselves. Of course we will have to shop, but we would have anyway and generally favoured the local and farm type over supermarkets.
Therfore from a personal point of view, whilst it might benifit my bank account. I can't see it aiding the economy, local or otherwise in any significant way.

I have just checked my only booking which is for early August and the price seems to still be the same as it was when I booked? I am sure it will eventually change when we get to the site.

Yes I understood what JK said. My query was more to do with whether prices in the "My Bookings" section of the website would be changed to reflect the new rate of VAT. This seems to be the case if the booking straddles the change date. I didn't expect JK to have an answer to that as that is more to do with HQ. If they are splitting bookings, as in Lindyloo's case probably they won't and site staff will just apply a formula when you book in to reduce the price. As I will be using site night vouchers in the scheme of things it makes no difference to me but others might be interested to know?
