The vat rate has been cut from 20% to 5% as from 15/7/20 to 12/1/21 for the hospitality and tourism industry as a whole.

As the government has left it to individual companies as to whether they pass on the 15% reduction,     and no money has changed hands ,it will be a wait and see what the club will do As they have it seems by some figures?  lost £23 million in lost business so  far this yearwink

CAMC will be obliged to cut the rate of VAT. They could, though, choose to increase their fees to compensate but that would be, I suggest, at their peril as it would cause even more work, bad PR and I reckon people would vote with their wheels.

Why don't we just wait and see?

Blimey, it was only announced about 6 hours ago! How dare the club not come up with a definitive statement already - I mean what is their form for answering questions on here? wink

The Club need to be careful, their own T&Cs state,

"The price of a booking includes VAT (where applicable) at the applicable current rate chargeable in the UK for the time being. However, if the rate of VAT changes between the date of your contract and the date of your stay, we will adjust the VAT you pay."

Yes, let’s all get outraged at the lack of a definitive statement within a few hours of an unexpected announcement, revel in the intricacies of invoice dates, tax points and VAT exemption and start threatening to cancel bookings on the assumption of foul play. OMG, Richie Sunak has a struggle on his hands!

I wonder why everyone assumes the worst of the club? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm surprised people are willing to be members if it's such an untrustworthy organisation 😱🙄

I suppose it’s no different than some members saying they may not renew their membership due to the clubs early handling of the Covid situation!

The deal means people can get up to £10 off per head if they eat out from Monday to Wednesday

In the same way of course this won't apply to restaurants at club siteswink

There has been some nonsense discussed in this thread, I'd just thought i would add to it

I an not sure that caravan and camping sites need a boost given the demand for caravans, tents and apparent difficulty in getting a booking over summer. Having said that where we are currently staying in Cornwall a nearby site has had 50% of their bookings cancelled by customers getting last minute fear of local transmission and lockdown. Visitor attractions may possibly benefit as might some hotels /guest houses.

We probably do need to give the Club a couple of days to gather their thoughts. Assuming that they do pass the reduction onto members they still have to work out how they are going to achieve that be it at point of sale or whether they change all the current booking with prices quoted at the 20% rate. Will it require a major revision of the site booking website? Given this announcement is only a few hours old! It also doesn't come into effect until a weeks time so it is not a life or death urgency.

The only difference it will make to us, is that it will save us a little bit if cash.  All sites are already booked.

I wonder what will happen at the commercial sites we have booked and already paid for?  Although we are going after the 'reduction start date', we paid before!  My guess is that, I reckon we can wave that goodbye!....

I’d say that’s not typical. Chances of getting a decent pitch/site this weekend in a club or commercial site in Devon or Cornwall are slim. I need to go up to Weston-super- Mud next week so thought I’d combine it with an adults only, no dogs stopover somewhere in North or East Devon - not a chance! I spoke to quite a few sites & CLs on the phone and many are struggling with the huge volume of bookings & enquiries.

Interesting juxtaposition of Government incentive to eat out in August with growing acceptance from the scientific community and WHO that CV19 can be contracted by airborne transmission. Highest risk is concentration of people using interior public/communal space - does that sound a bit like to a campsite shower block? Viral material can become airborne in many ways, not just coughing and sneezing, e.g flushing toilet with seat up, cleaning teeth etc.

It’s useful to have experts that can advise us about this stuff!

Whats the big deal? When you pay, you pay the price today. CMC sites dont usually get paid for until arrival day. No different to any other business who have to deal with price changes regularly.

I'll be at a club site for one day before and one after next week. It could be an interesting "socially distanced" conversation at check-in.

Even if the club pass on all the 15% saving on the current price, won't they end up slightly better off.

For simplicity we will say a site night costs £20.

Currently the CC keeps £16 and £4 go to the chancellor.

At 5% VAT the club keeps £19

If they pass on all the £3 (15%) saving, the new site night cost will be £17.

5% VAT on £17 is £0.85. Therefore the club keeps £16.15. A whole 15p more😂 Although those will mount up with thousands of site nights.😀

    Unless my reasoning is flawed?

careful what you wish for, according to some on here all sites certainly in the West country are maxed out, so you might not get a new booking, but for sure somebody will snap yours up.

Cant see what all the fuss is about, less than 24 hours after the annoucement and members are threatening to swing management from the yard arm, this was probably a big surprise to them so of course it is going to take time to work our what needs to be done, if anything, might decide the admin work/cost is to much and leave everything as is, after all whatever they take in tax be it 5% or 20% has to go to the treasury so they will be on a loser if they reduce and have to bear the admin costs.undecided

That doesn't sound right to me, Steve. £4 does not goes to the chancellor.

Not to patronise you in any way, but you can't work 'backwards' (from £20) with percentages like that.

The £20 you talk about is made up of two things the actual price the club wants to sell a pitch for and VAT added on that we pay. So £20 is actually 120%, the 100% for the pitch and 20% VAT.

so on £20 that we pay, the price of the pitch is actually £16.66... and VAT is £3.33... giving a total of £19.99... or £20

So the new price at 5% Vat will be

    £16.66 + 5% of £16.66 = 16.66 + 0.83 = £17.50 (rounded up)

I can't see the club keeping any of the 'extra' VAT. The club is just a collector of taxes and passes on the VAT to HMRC.
