Water system cleaning

We've only had our caravan a year and just wondering what the best way to clean the water system is.  We have a 2018 swift major 6.

We last used it in October 2019 and with facilities on most sites shut or restricted we will need to use the sinks and shower in the van.

Thank you

I'd NOT use Milton or anything of similar make-up --  it can corrode anything made of metal  like screws, clips, clamps etc.

I'd stick to one of the normal advertised liquids **  designed for the job.

Plenty of pumping thro all the pipes up to the taps, shower head etc. then leave for a couple of hours before pumping dry, flushing thro' with fresh water  & leaving full for an hour or two.  After that totally empty & refill as required with a measure of steriliser at each and every top up.

Being a caravan you might find a removeable screw cap to allow access for you to ensure that the tank is clear of grain of sand, grit etc that can be brought in with the water --  not all water pipes are pristine !!

**  Aqua Sol  is the one I use

Look at the Floe products from N.Ireland, excellent piece of kit for cleaning water system, and draining down your system. There is the standard drain down kit, which gets a lot of water out, I have had this. Two years ago with change of caravan I bought the induratec version. What a piece of kit. I did a further test of this piece of kit between sites. Left one site with all taps open and external water points. When I arrived at the next site, switched on induratec and got a further two Pyrex jugs fills of water out of the system. This I would not want leaving in the caravan water system. Also you ring the company you speak to Jason the MD, very nice helpful gent

We have been using Puriclean for the last 22 years, we do that before each trip as we usually take only a few quite long trips each year.

I don't think you have an onboard  tank  Newone, so one less thing to worry about.

I fill up the Aquaroll, let  it sit for an hour or 2, then fill the HW tank , the on board tank , and all the pipework , top up the Aquaroll fully and let everything sit overnight.  Next day I run it all through all the waste pipes, then follow that with 3 flushes with fresh water.

Milton is fine for the Aquaroll but is not advisable for the hot water boiler. I also use Puriclean which is available at various stockists including Halfords.

I use Puriclean at the beginning of each year ,which I obtain from my local yacht chandlery. Having said that, I never followed such a routine with my yacht's freshwater tank and I've lived to tell the tale.

Puriclean for us too.  We do the same cleaning regime as KjellNN, except we have never bothered to use our onboard tank so don't clean it.

I’m not usually concerned, but as caravan hadn’t been used since the end of September.
I e-mailed ALDE this week as I was thinking of using Milton, here’s their reply

“Thank you for your email, we never recommend using Milton through the system as it is highly corrosive to the boiler. If you were looking for a product we recommend Puriclean by a company called cleantabs,“

Ordered some from Kenmore Caravans eBay shop
( Search for item no.  382037535737 for eBay users amongst us) always get quick delivery and free postage on most things

Same choice here. I have heard of damage to stainless steel sink finishes due to leaving Milton in the sink.

Thank you everyone for your reply.  I'll buy some puriclean.  Happy holidays to everyone.   I'm so glad the sites are starting to open now. laughing

Set of last weekend on maiden voyage in new to me 2011 Bailey Pegasus. Will be a solo caravaner but had my pal along this time for valuable moral support. We thought all was going great with no major catastophe'es until attempting to use Puriclean to clean the pipes. After letting it stand for about 4 hours in aquaroll and having pulled it through pipes, we started to try and flush with clean water. But nothing happened except lots of gurgling - bit of hot water thru but no cold and then hot gave up as well, no water from taps at all.

Referring to Bailey manual it said to check for definate air blockage, to put shower head in bowl of water and run, if bubbles come out then its an airblock - well there where lots of bubbles.

Totaly stuck now - all forums just suggest priming system and opening taps for few minutes - please dont suggest that as its more severe and tried doing that for ages. Also drained down whole system but that didnt help. Tried openning furthest tap, tried hot before cold and vis versa - nothing is working and no running water through tapsfrown,

Can anyone help? Its a bit of a coincidence that I was trying to clean pipes and wondering is there another filter apart fro the carbon one in barrel? took this off as advised before starting all the above. Totally stumped - help grateully recieved please? Its all outets including shower so not micro switch or the likes.

Does Anyone know how to blow the system through to clear it? or other options to try?
