I have an actual policy renewed 16/04/2020 all up £252.08 which i thought was a very fair price, (Coachman Amara 2008) it includes Caravanners Legal Protection (optional) which was £9.75.

it states in the booklet "Caravan Cover is provided by the Caravan Club Limited", and goes on to say "The discretionary cover we provide is not a contract of insurance, and The Caravan Club Limited is not regulated as an insurance company",

this for my OH was a bit of a sticking point but the involvement of Builders Direct and DAS would cover any shortfalls in the club cover, and you do get a Caravan cover schedule" so you have a legal contract document, and if all else fails The Caravan Club Ltd is authorised and regulated by the FCA

Yes the club would be your first port of call in the event of a claim, which is a good point for me as we normally use RP for travel abroad for which again you can deal with the club direct.

My OH is an ex insurance broker of long standing so she know's a bit about insurance, couple of bullet points from the booklet

club have taken out a group policy with Builders Direct, so in the event the club cannot pay, Builders Direct will take up the slack

You have full protection via the Financial Ombudsman and the Financial Services Compensation scheme if Builders Direct cannot meet their obligations.

You also have full legal protection vis DAS Legal Expenses Insurance

My OH signed it off so it is good enough for me

as with any insurance you pays your money and takes your chance

Never my concern that the club or builders could not meet a claim. Having had to commence legal action against an insurance company that could meet a claim but that offered far than my loss I did not wish the same hassle. I got my money by playing hardball and refusing not to go to court. Far rather have access to FSO

Hello Rufs, nice to 'hear' from you. Maybe the reason that I can relate to situations on this forum is 39 years of caravaning ? As far as insurance goes, these days, with a normal insurance, you pays yer money and have the FOS if you have a disagreement with the insurer. With the caravan Club I have no idea. Do you?

Good on you fella. Personally I prefer not to fight a battle if somebody else can do it for me. Must be an age thing.

Not quite sure what you mean by "personal Europe" bit. Do you mean Red Pennant? or some other stand alone policy.

All I can tell you is that I have pre-existing medical problems. I have my insurance through my bank account and when I visited Netherlands last year I obtained cover for it but paid an extra amount.

I'm not sure if you will get the best responses to your question on this thread as it relates to caravan insurance. You would be better starting another thread yourself, it's easy, under the Overseas Section or if it's just Red Pennant then you could start it in Club Products section. It looks like you've waiting for approval before your post has appeared. Sorry about that but all new first time posts encounter a delay.

Had my caravan cover renewal from the club.  The new quote was £550 without new for old which undoubtedly would have loaded the premium.  I have searched for other quotes and come up with one company which will insure new for old and European travel for under £400.  The policy is through a Broker and the underwriter is CETA.  The reviews I’ve read are quite mixed, anyone have personal experience?

    Oneputt,

I posted this on this forum and another regarding my Eriba. A replacement of the 2017 van is about £22/23K with bits:-

When on GoCompare two quotes came up at £137.90, Performance Direct along with Grove and Dean. They are both the same company and I discounted them as I did not recognise the name. I've just clicked on them and read up. they are underwritten by Aviva, include Legal Protection and European Cover.

    A  day later:-

I have spoken to Grove & Dean this morning and enquired about upgrading to a New for Old policy, expecting a big hike and further protective measures.
They came back with £165.90. I asked if this was based on the £29K I had worked out on the Eriba site and he said no, it does not matter, you would get a new version of your van no matter what the cost. [It would actually be £32/33K] The C&MC want £850 for that cover.
I also got clarification on Personal effect basically means clothes and exempts electrical devices [£1000].
Equipment would be the stuff attached and in the van you need such as mover, chairs, crockery, bedding etc.[£2000]
The awning is a separate item [£500]
I've chosen the figures in brackets.
The only thing not covered is repatriation from abroad, but this does not worry me as I take out Red Pennant.

    Colin

Our policy was renewed whilst I was in hospital last year but in all honesty I wouldn't have looked elsewhere. Ours with Saga on N/Old basis for £300, including European cover which also includes repatriation.

Having had a claim settled by them in amicable way and not having any penalty imposed for said claim, substantial, I was happy to renew.
