Gas Pigtails not fitted

On Thursday we collected our new Compass caravan. Due to COVID the handover was totally different. We were sent a video of the van interior with a staff member explaining the controls and how to use them. So, we put the van in storage and today (Saturday) purchased a bottle of gas only to find there was no pigtails attached to the switchover regulator in the front locker. When questioned, the dealer said they were no longer supplied with new vans and we had to purchase two. I find this questionable as if the handover had been ‘normal’ the systems would have been all on and pigtails would have been fitted to use gas. I am concerned that we are expected to fit and tighten the nuts to prevent a gas leak - surely the dealer should be fitting and checking to ensure our safety. Anyone else come across this?
Although, having purchased a new caravan you would have expected the dealer to supply these FOC.

For the sake of a few quid you'd have thought the dealer would have kept you sweet & included them in the deal even if they were technically not included with the caravan. I feel he/she is hiding behind the fact it was not a face to face hand over. I hope you have better luck if you have need to have any remedial work carried out.

I would have thought that as part of the PDI (ha ha), they should have pressure tested the gas system - so unless they fitted the pigtails and then took them off again, how have they done that.  Every van I have bought (from new) has had the pigtails fitted.

With our present van, I did notice when we first looked at it that, not only weren't there any pigtails, there wasn't even a regulator.  However, when we picked it up it did have the pigtails and they had even fitted an automatic change-over regulator at no extra cost.

The last two vans that I bought new had no pigtail fitted until I had confirmed what gas I was running

As ET mentions above, they need to know if you plan to use Butane or Propane, the pigtails are different depending on the gas bottle to be used.

Having said that, tightening up one end of the pigtail to the van end, is really no more complicated or difficult that tightening up the other end to the bottle, a task which you will need to do at every bottle change.

However, I do feel that they should be supplied.

My mobile engineer showed me a new model of pigtail that simply clamp on, no struggling with nuts in the front locker as in my case , probably more expensive than conventional

We had buy our own for our van.  There are two types, we bought the stainless steel (braided) type.  Can’t remember the price but  £20 each comes to mind, but they have a much longer service life than the rubber ones.

As it was a remote handover ,they probably did not know what gas you would be using as the pigtails would have diferent fittings ,but good customer service would have been a call to you to ask,

We have over the many years of LVs pigtails have always been fitted at no cost to us
