Coronavirus Discussion

Cornersteady- just a bit of enlightment. It was always anticipated that the spread of the disease would be from the South East England westward. That is the main reason Wales are 2 weeks behind in easing lockdown. The spike as you say is centered around three meat packing sites in Wales, also in Kirklees up your area and also in Germany. They have common factors. Work conditions are cold and damp. Just what everyone said would be the likely increase generally when Autumn/Winter comes. The workforce is mainly Eastern European living in cramped conditions. On Anglesey it was found there were 9 living in a 2 bed house, on shift work. Doesnt take much imagination to work out the sleeping conditions. Again goes back to basics. The virus spreads more rapidly in indoor, cramped, close proximity conditions. Hope that helps your thinking. We await the First Ministers announcement today at 12.30 to see if there are any further, steady, considered and actionable easing.

I only look at CT occasionally and haven’t read the whole of this discussion but will also be interested to know the outcome of Deleted User’s enquiry to HO regarding supermarket deliveries to sites. Not something I was aware of so CAMC’s reasoning for this U turn would be of interest.
I also try to bear in mind that even prior to this Pandemic not all ‘campers’ have the finances to be able to use local shops etc when away or indeed when at home and I respect their personal choices.
Everything changes, nothing stays the same forever so take care and stay safe everyone.

Despite being told by her consultant (and her GP) that she must isolate and she must not let her children go to school, my youngest has only just been put on the governments at risk list. She eventually got the shielding letter 6 weeks ago but, despite phone calls, she is still not on the computerised list. So she has had similar problems. This has meant no preferential online food shopping and no delivery of prescriptions. A friend has collected prescriptions.
Fortunately she had a large stock of foods. Getting suitable milk has been a problem as the grandchildren have a cow's milk intolerance and one has a soya intolerance. When she does get an order she is able to make use of school food vouchers as they can only be used at Asda.

I somehow doubt they are that altruistic?

Jayoutdoors I'm sure we all respect the shopping choices of others but just at the moment food delivery services are working at full capacity because of covid19. As said it's doubtful if people will get local deliveries on holiday unless they attempt to book before they go or happen to live locally and are taking a break near home.
It's probably a minor issue in the scheme of things the big one is the massive influx of people to some areas and keeping the virus under control.
I just hope people respect that too.

like you have no experience of online food shopping, however, after watching delivery vans in our close deliverfing 6 crates on a sack barrow, i doubt some older folks will be able to move these from dedicated drop off point back to caravan easily, as for likely hood of being able to get a delivery slot , you could always order weeks in advance of taking your holiday, i guess.

"the more something changes, the more it remains the same" this was happening in the cotton towns of Lancashire when we had an influx of asian workers in the 1950's, i remember travelling on a double decker bus into town and being able to see into bedrooms where there were rows of mattresses on the floor, and they used to hot bed. These today must be hot beds of infection for corvid-19, as they were in the 50's for all those nasty things that were around.

well, after experiencing something similar to this when we took the Gkids to Bournemouth for the Christmas festivities, i can tell you that once within the boundaries of the town centre it is extremely difficult to get out again, we off loaded the kids and grandma whilst Gdad spent 1 hour trying to park the car. and this was early December, not at supposed peak, and have on 2 occasions spent nearly 1 hour trying to get out of the multi storey car park in Southampton after visiting the Mayflower Theatre

As someone with a great deal of experience of using online shopping when away, that’s simply what you do. You set up a date and time when away, having checked with your holiday location prior to ordering of course. Getting on online delivery slot to your holiday residence is dependent upon who delivers, and the availability of slots. So if it’s difficult for locals, it will be just as difficult for any visitors. Given that deliveries are not quite as on time as usual, given the increased usage, it will require anyone expecting a delivery to be around awaiting that delivery for a slightly longer period. Fine if that floats your boat while away, it’s not an issue when at home as time isn’t as precious.
I am surprised Club have decided to allow deliveries. However, given how desperate they appear to get folks back on Sites, they will have weighed up the pros and cons and come down on the “well if this gets us bookings” side.

The "crates" are what i have seen are full of carrier bags ,and are off loaded at the address ad the crates taken back ,
It will be a very interesting "exercise"with deliveries , and not allowed as per the instructions ,to your pitch , as we all hope will be adhered to

you need to get out more.....for some car parks in the city centre once you are in the queue there is no way out, some car parks are one way only so even if you now do not intend to stay you have to wait patiently in the queue until all those in front of you have either parked or decided to leave at the earliest possible opportunity, so if it is one in one out and people are dithering trying to bag a space that might become empty, then you could easily rack up 2 hours.
Even without all this corvid-19 experiences, Bournemouth police quite often restrict access to the town during the summer season due to all car parks being full and no available road parking, so road blocks are set up and you have to prove that you are a resident to enter the town, but i did see on the news yesterday that 1 family had travelled from Milton Keynes, 3 hrs they said, only to have to turn around as there was no room at the inn, this is why we tend to stay home during July & August.

Visitors were flocking in from everywhere, Birmingham, London. City dwellers desperate for some sand and sea.

We are fortunate to live by the sea, just a 10 minute stroll, and I would miss living so close. During this period of stupidity I will be avoiding the beach at weekends and any bank holidays. I’m usually taking my first walk starting before 8am and the second after 5pm, still people about but a lot have left the beach so we can achieve safe distancing. Obviously the other benefit we don’t need to use the car and look for parking

I think that is how many local folks deal with the holiday season OP. My SIL lives in Bakewell, and they have adapted to dealing with a huge influx of visitors. We avoid busy places in Summer round us.

My experience with Tesco is that you can only book three weeks in advance and only hold three bookings. The system won't let you do anymore. As for Waitrose and others I have never been able to get anything at all from them throughout lockdown.

Me too brue. It can only get worse when the pubs re open.

If you have been accepted onto the Waitrose vulnerable list no problems with booking up to three weeks ahead. To get on that list you have had to have been a regular users of the My Waitrose Card loyalty scheme and be if a certain age or vulnerability. Margaret was accepted onto the list as her card is the main user, mine was not. If I try and log in for weeks I couldn't find any spaces at all. However just recently I have come across the odd slot but no more than a week ahead. Obviously this will vary from branch to branch, except in London where they have one fulfilment centre.

It doesn't matter one jot where the spikes were, what is important is that you in Wales had one, that is all, with all your proclamation of your system being better and local, you had one. The reasons you give are immaterial as there could be similar conditions anywhere, if people had followed the 2m rule and followed simple basic hygiene rules it might not have happened, face up to the fact that it happened and it cannot be anyone else's fault and that your system may be letting you down quite badly.
As I said you predicted a spike in England after out easing a few weeks ago and it did not happen, yet ironically it did in your part of the UK.
And really the fault lies with England yet again? The same old , same old.
